    from a friend of mine:

"My first bicycle accident, in peaceful Brussels, after 11 year of biking with stupid, inconsiderate, impatient, incompetent London drivers (felt very therapeutic to write that!!) one of those kind and soft Brussels drivers who would stop to let any old lady or young man cross the road just decided to start reversing without looking in the mirror and voila, front wheel all misshaped under his back wheel, thankfully noone hurt (except the bike)."

I spent a few days in Brussels recently at a conference. What surprised me most was the lack of cyclists, despite their highly publicised bike scheme which according to reports I have seem has been largely a failure.
Far more cyclists out and about in Edinburgh from what I could tell - In my relatively short stay admittedly.

and from a student in brussels for the holidays:

"cycling in strike-hit Brussels - quite nice, if it weren't for the blind, bullying car drivers..."
