    I thought this was brilliant...

and maybe they should ride a bike...

Also statistically Edinburgh is in the top 10 (at #10) for getting your car vandalised, and most targeted are Lexus, BMW's, Audi's, Mini's and Mercs...all the cheap cars then?

I looked out at the car park today. A good 30% of the cars seem to be BMW 1 Series, Audi A3 or Mini.

Nothing as individual as all being the same!

Best cars you can get on the basic company car allowance, they have fairly low emissions and its difficult to tell that they are the entry level spec.

Kaputnik, possible lots of them will be fleet cars, so sometimes more what loses the company less money rather than personal choice?

Our fleet list only has 5 manufacturers - BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Volkswagen, Ford.

Somewhat Germanic pattern there, but its all about getting the most car for the money, I believe.

I think its closely tied to the their devaluation, Astras devalue like a rock VAG and BMW devalue like a helium balloon.

Thing is a helium balloon will devalue fairly quickly as after day 2 they are normally pretty flat. A rock on the other hand will retain it's usefulness for years to come...

    Steveo, spot on.

FD's are generally not daft about this 'perk'.

In our place, employees pay a monthly hire charge (offset against tax) for the car - which effectively means the employee (not the company) pays the depreciation cost.

    Neat, eh ?

I'm sure you resent it too :)

Actually I was thinking this morning for some reason that you might! But you have already elaborated your car-purchasing decision on another thread that's OK. What's their excuse :) I also missed out on annoying Fiat 500 and Audi TT owners.

We don't really do fleet cars at work (they exist, but are the minority) but there's a dry lease scheme where the money for car is deducted from your salary and you hand it back after 3 years or something. But it's all done through one of the big car lease/hire-purchase companies (that happen to be part of the organisation) so you can pretty much pick what you want from Skoda through Porsche.
