I spent a good 45 minutes last year with a sledgehammer hitting the ice outside my flat since just up the road is a block of retirement flats and they'd have to cross it to get their messages.
Actually a lot of fun, and I strictly speaking could have jacked it in a few metres earlier than I did.
Later in the week I saw two Cooncil blokes with a far better tool for the job - looked like a giant crossbow bolt so it broke the ice up much more neatly and with an easier stance'n'action - finishing the job further down the road. They took two hours to do the same distance...
