I don't know where will be open. But thought of a bottle of Duvel somewhere al fresco sounds kinda appealing

Last time I looked, there was no location in, on or under which a bottle of Duvel is unappealing.

That said, I'd vote for a thermos of mulled wine, given the season, but I'm known for excessive fussiness in that regard.

both? Duval al fresco is indeed a fine idea, should be nice and cold too!

OK time and place! I vote 10.30am earliest foot of Arthurs seat :)

I'll be riding over from parents gaff in Corstorphine. I vote we move it at least a mile to the West!

Surely the ONLY meeting place on such a day of riding-where-you-wouldn't-normally-be-riding is the Castle esplanade. Where better to survey all of your yule-riding kingdom?

  10. I do hope you're prepared for 50mph gusts... :-/

Alas will be grouchily picking up all the discarded wrapping paper and putting it in bin bag/s

I feel I must point out that if out cycling on Xmas Morn you really all should have new bikes?

I was out cycling one frosty Xmas morn to burn off discarded wrapping paper in bin bag/s grouchiness when I caught a jogger taking a dump right in the middle of the WoL path. I fear I will never lose the look on his face seared into my retina

Real cyclists surf gusts...! What blows you to a standstill makes you stronger?

I won't make it - would have gone but my bikes are resting.

Well, that was straightforward. Forgot to mark the time, so all I know is that from a third of the distance to home as an hour.

I suspect the heavily cambered roads of rural Tayside haven't done the outside of my Marathon Winters any good. Down by a good six studs on the right hand side, which I think I would have noticed if it had happened already, but I am an idiot, so perhaps not.

Good day for it too, clear, not too windy. Nice scenery, one presumes? Not done that run myself but do plan to head out to Arbroath at some point from work for an afternoon.

EDIT - Did you flip the hub over to freewheel or stay fixed?

Aye, my parents didn't pick the ugliest place to live...

The light wasn't great so the photos I took were a bit drab. What I'm kicking myself for is not going to the radio mast, but I can remedy that in the coming days.

Stayed in fixed. It's mostly uphill, so there were no repeats of Hilly Tuesday's uncomfortable spinning. I can't be sure if that's just because the descents aren't as steep or whether it's just that I'm more used to it, but the spinny sections were pretty good fun.

You're on 40x18 *runs to Uncle Sheldon* = 58", if memory serves? I would hasten to preface this by saying take the proper cyclists' advice over mine, but if you're considering this fixed gear nonsense then start high and stay clear of steep ascents. I've got a 72" racer and the 63" wintersaurus and of the two problems to have, difficult ascent is a lesser evil than uncontrollable spinning. Aerodynamics means the high gears don't spin madly.

I've got mild osteoarthritis in both my knees, but they whine more about the weather than they do about fixed riding on either bike.

1030. Vicinity of MMW or High Street or Esplanade.

Didn't manage a morning ride, but did head out for a quick spin this evening, around quarter to eleven. Whizzed down to Portobello and along the prom to Joppa, then back along Portobello Road. Tailwind on the way down meant I was spinning out in top gear. Headwind on the way back created resistance such that it was like a slow, steady climb.

Incredibly warm, so I was completely overdressed just with my indoor clothes and a windproof jacket and wool cycling cap. Must improve my fitness levels, too much roast meat and lounging around!

I got p*ssed and ate all day. A better man than I, crowriver, and other Yule cyclists.

    Or mental.

Just rode home from my parents. Had fleece, t-shirt and longsleeve on underneath. MUCH MUCH too hot! Had to pull gloves off and unzip the coat to get some ventilation.

Town pretty quiet and drivers seem to be pootling quite quietly. Perhaps worried they are still over limit so taking it easy? Or maybe they don't want to get round to mother-in-laws for turkey sandwiches and re-heated sprouts that badly...

    Innocent calm

Coming back from showing someone the Innocent way to Porty.

Blown there, set off after the rain, saw no other bikes.

    Good 3G signal in Tunnel.

About to battle the wind again.

Tried to go to Fife but FETA had put their poxy barriers down over both walkways without announcing it in advance of the last turn-off the way they do for motor vehicles. Very few other cyclists about; lots of large famblygroups with dogs, especially round Dalmeny. Lots of 'road narrowing ahead' signs blown down on the A90 path which I stopped to drag closer to he wall.
