A friend and I plan an easy New Year's Eve ride on Edinburgh cycle paths including the Rodney Street tunnel and ending at that well-known cyclists paradise, the Ronde cafe in Hamilton place in Stockbridge. If anyone is interested, we're meeting outside the Destiny Church, Gorgie (the old cinema opposite the Gorgie City Farm) at 11-00 on Saturday 31st and going from there. The weather is supposed to be reasonably warm with possible drizzle. Feel free to just turn up if you're interested. I'll be with the recumbent tricycle so I should be easy to identify.

I'm at shop otherwise I'd go. Could maybe sneak away for a coffee at Ronde though - depending on whether I can get cover.
Think this is a good idea as I certainly get fed up not getting so much exercise.

If any forumer wants to sample trike riding - a new ICE demo is available to borrow/hire at minimal cost.
Will be around over the New Year dead zone - just in case anyone gets bored eating, drinking, shopping, watching TV, going on the web.

    All users will be breathalysed!;-)

Sorry - had to miss out. Someone came to showroom so thought I should stay on. Paperwork to do as well. Then Roibeard and tall daughter arrived. They took two trikes out for a while and seemed to enjoy them - which was nice to see.

Sorry I missed this one, Alan! I misread it as New Year's Day, for which I'm otherwise engaged at lunchtime. :-(

Sorry you all couldn't make it. It was a good run, not especially long, in which the strength of a recumbent bike showed up - little air resistance ie high speed. My only companion on the ride might just have been pootling, though, as I'd say he's much stronger than I. The cafe was nice and I particularly enjoyed the new Chancelot path and the Rodney Street tunnel. Why don't we think about doing one in the future, say with LaidBack doing one of his tours (they're very good and he shows you all kinds of interesting routes in Edinburgh or the surroundings)?

I like the sound of a LaidBack tour too - I'm sure we could arrange a CCE outing on his peculiar contraptions.

Indeed, I'd be happy to bring my own oddity to add to the mix...

    Happy New Year!

Bagsy the Paper Bicycle! Or failing that, a Circe Helios.
(If I tried a recumbent I'd just keep falling over and holding everyone up).

@crowriver - I'd be surprised to see someone fall off a trike...

However you could also try the front of the Pino.

In any case, both options have all the recumbency, without the balancing!

I had a nice ride on New years eve also with local freinds round Fife. We set off in ~10 degrees C and dry from Dalgety bay - Crossgates - Kelty cloud coming down) - Kinross (misty) - Milnathort (decidedly damper) - Dollar (rain) stopping in a lovely cafe (Cafe de Fleurs) - Saline - Crossford - Rosyth and back to the Bay. 46 miles in total and I really didn't feel I was slowing until I climbed up coming home from Rosyth.

I started off the year doing a ride up to Kinross (via Loch Leven's Larder) and back which had me stopping at the foot of the hill I live on for chocolate as I culdn't walk up never mind ride up, ~30 miles. I did the Tour of East Lothian, in Feb, which I was not prepared for. Now I can ride 45 miles without difficulty (have been of the bike for 2 weeks), so I must be doing something right)

My aim for this year, Audax 100, 200 (and perhaps 300, we'll see!!). Oh and I lost over 2 st this year, and NO DIETing either..
