I generally do a Tour de Moors the other way around. With the prevailing wind, this gives a stonking home run from West Linton, and there is a whopper of a climb out of Penicuik.

I guess the Tour of ML will not be stopping to look at points of interest (except for cafes).

Peter Valente has asked me to change his contact email address, which is vtt@ctclothians.org.uk if you want to contact him about doing the CTC version of the East Lothian Audax on Sunday, 11th March. Ta.

Well I did 'a' ride on Sunday. Not the one I'd originally planned but a local one.

    http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/64591578

Started in Dalgety Bay, up to Loch Leven's Larder for a mid morning Breakfast, then onto Falkland, Auchtermuchty, Newburgh, Aberagie, Glenfarg, Milnathort, Kinross, Kelty, Crossgates and home.

Set off around 09.15 (once everyone had finally arrived) and with a 40 mins stop for Breakfast, I took 4hours and ~40 mins.Great ride ectept for an unforsen hill from Dron (nr Aberagie) to Glenfarg... groan.

Roll on the Tour de East Lothian.

Yes, it was a lovely day yesterday, if a bit cold and frosty. If I was fit I'd have been out too. Hopefully get a short training ride in tomorrow, as my minor injuries appear to be healing.

Seem to recall a beast of a hill near Freuchie just after Loch Leven: like climbing a cliff face!

We were out at Innerleithen yesterday, absolutely incredible day, weather-wise (must have been below -10 on the top).

There's something really satisfying about riding to a trig point (and I'm not talking about the immense downhill that follows!)

99.57km - you weren't tempted to do a couple of laps round the block to break the 100km barrier? ;)

It was a magic day yesterday - I went out into East Lothian and have never seen so many people on bikes - no big groups either: all in 1s, 2s, and the occasional 4.

I was going off an eTrek on my handlebars not the other GPS on my phone, recording via MapMyRide. My eTreck showed exactly 100km and has intrements of 100m.

@crowriver, I've cycled up the north end of West Lomond, which was a steep long climb. Not sure which was worse, but I suspect the climb out of Aberagie is a similar height climbed to West Lomond hill just south of Falkland. I'll have a look at where Freuchie is.

I rode to the meetup point (DB railway station, and waited 15 mins for everyone to turn up. To stop getting cold, in that time was doing circuits upto the top of a local hill and round a couple opf roundabouts which are not shown on the trace off MMR. The workout (without map) shown in the workouts tab showed a workout 62.57 miles.

I am copying a posting about an event from yacf as it looks fun. As Kaputnik and I know, it is easy to get lost around Lilliesleaf. Unfortunately I will be in Argentina that day.

"I don't know if this will be of interest to any of you, but the first round of this years SMBO series is a road event.

Anyway, some info from the website http://www.bmbo.org.uk/calendar/details.php?event_id=252

Anyone fancy a Tour of Midlothian or Tour de Moors type route this weekend? Forecast is well above zero degrees (at least on Saturday am) with a stiff westerly.

I'm hoping to join the CTC ride this Sunday, if I feel fit enough. Amazing how quickly you lapse back into being unfit, just a few days taking it gently... Tour de Moors sounds a bit too challenging for me at this stage!

Futher news on the East Lothian NOT Audax from Peter Valente...

"As previously intimated I intend to organise a club run on Sunday the 11th of March over the route traditionally used by the Musselburgh Club's Tour of East Lothian (which this year only is not taking place). It has been decided this one-off run will be titled the Audrey Fyfe Memorial Run as Audrey was heavily involved in the inaugural event over this route.

The run will be of 100k departing Musselburgh Town Hall at 10am and going via Carberry to East Saltoun, Gifford, Redstone Rig thence Garvald to Dunbar with the return going via Haddington over to Longniddry then along the coast to return to the start point.

The speed will not really be greater than a normal club run but the idea will be to do it in the spirit of an Audax which means "maintaining progress", preferably in supportive bunches - especially along the coastal return. Those wishing for a re-enactment of the racing warm up the faster groups use the Tour as may be disappointed.

I appreciate that some may want to take part to honour Audrey's memory but not wish to enjoy the gentle rolling hills involved in going via Redstone and Garvald so there will be a low level route to Dunbar with the return following the main route. This should be approximately 40 to 50 miles and I am looking for a volunteer to lead that one, and indeed a volunteer to act as backmarker on the main run.

I am trying to organise a lunch stop at Dunbar so if anyone knows of a hall we could use in the town then I would be grateful for information. Because of this I want to know numbers in advance so, if you have not already done so, please let me know of your interest on vtt@ctclothian.org.uk We hope to meet up with a party from the Berwick and Borders Group at lunch.

All will be welcome with the possible exception of the girl who, in last year's Audax , on a straight stretch of road above Carberry with only the two of us on it, managed to run right in to the back of me.

Liz, could you point me to the original place you cut n pasted this info from please as a google search of Peter's name draws a blank, and I've looked through the CTC lothians pages but there is no mention of any contact details for them or any ride on the 11th March.

OK... so if anyone knows the organiser could they pass on this info please?

As the cafe in Dunbar is closed they might want to organise a stop here, but would have to lay on supplies themselves, which I'm sure those taking part would be up for paying towards.

Organisation Name: West Barns Village Hall
    Meeting place: Edinburgh Rd
    West Barnes
    EH42 1UH (View Map)
    Main Contact: Teresa Martin
    Telephone: 01368 865515
Charges:Small hall: £7.50 per hour. Large hall: £10.50 per hour or £50 per night.
    Capacity:80-100 people
    Equipment:kitchen appliances
    Wheelchair Access:Yes
    Disabled Facilities:Toilet

    Cheers.

Hi DaveC - I have sent the cafe information to Peter. He is currently the Chair of the Lothians CTC group, or at least he was last time I looked. Thank you for your most helpful information.

Interesting if challenging 200k coming up 29 April out West: Rivers Lochs & Glens. Start from Gourock so public transport compatible for the start.

Anyone done this? Is it my imagination Kaputnik or do I recall some photos from last year?

Preps for the March 200km going okay. Slow trip over to the Peebles road via Gladhouse yesterday. It was so wild and windy. At times it was difficult to maintain 7mph on the flat. Rain showers flew by cooling things down somewhat.

Today I went with the friendly ERC Sunday ride. The wind was strong but not as bad as yesterday. We went up the Lang Whang, over to Romanno Bridge and back. First 60 miler of the year. The Lang Whang goes on and on and on and and ...

BTW for non-locals, Lang Whang means long bootlace
