Lovely ride yesterday. Countryside is fantastic around Comrie. Kaputnik's puncture at Inverkeithing meant we relied more than expected on the gps. However, due to the massive feeding requirements of DaveCs group at Perth Tesco, we caught them up there. And then got ahead on the next eating stop. After ice cream at Stirling, we soon realised the errors of our ways as our wee group ran out of fuel when battling the headwind on the home run. I will remember to consider fuel more carefully next time. Pleased with our speed, a bit less than 8 hours rolling and about 10 hours overall.

Great to see all the CCErs. Well done to DaveC on completing his first and to Riffian on his massive improvement in time despite his fall.

DaveC, I am still considering the Rivers, lochs and glens audax, but the complication is POP28 the day before. An alternative is that we arrange our own 100 miler.

Amir said " due to the massive feeding requirements of DaveC".... But Adrian I eat loads so I don't die in places like Culross to Forth Road Bridge! and it pays off as I also ate heartly in Causewayside and stormed the next section to the Bridge and into Edinburgh. My only problem is a slight stitch after such a meal. I can recomend the cafe in Causewayside though for its wonderfull food and super service.

Recombdna, if you have a look at the Nippie Sweetie thread on YACF forum you'll see my lege... rubbish puncture repair technique as someone put a pic of me on with rear wheel in hand..

I slept in a bit, didn't breakfast, spent all day trying to catch up with this error. Going went fine until not long past Alloa where power-generating abilities of legs became alarming limited. Kept plodding on, couldn't keep up with Amir and our other compadré on any form of hill, managed to crawl back into the lee on flats. Banana-stowage oversite ruined my 2 emergency bananas, I was able to salvage about 2/3s of one. Fell right off the back between Kirkliston and Burnshot at which point my tired, food-fantisising mind finally remembered the pack of oatcakes stowed in jumper pocket. They were to be eaten at stops but had been overlooked. Not easy to eat on the go as crumbs of oat are want to go into your lungs and they are very dry. But they did the trick and stopped me bonking completely. Fortunately (for me) I was leading the way through the suburbs from memory so Amir had no option but to politely go at my much reduced pace!

Was dissapointed to not be able to find the sugar for my tea at the end stop, but there was great soup and cake on offer and I limped slowly home to a white pudding supper and double Tizer.

Great day out though and cycled some lovely roads I've never been on and would go back to.

Ok thats put a line under it.

If Rivers Lochs and Glens is too soon after POP28 do you fancy the Deeside loop Amir? I can take 3 people now my new roof rack is installed. Maybe even go up on Fri eve & camp overnight (don't worry the tents big enough for campbeds, cooker & standing up in) so there would be no need for roughing it the night before.

Have a look & see what you think.

No offence meant, DaveC, about your hearty appetite. Next time I will feed a bit better, and try to resist the temptation of ice cream in favour of something more sporty, e.g. porridge.

Certainly felt it today on the commute, though I didn't have much of a recovery day yesterday with a longish walk at St Abbs followed by lawn mowing (not at St Abbs!).

I will be away then on a wee break to Yorkshire. A relatively staightforward would be an extension of the one I did the other week - i.e. to Innerleithen (with cafe!) via Moorfoots, over to the Gordon Arms, along the valley to St Mary's Loch, over Talla, hang a right to the Botanic Garden (with cafe??) at Dawyck, back over the Meldons (passing another cafe near Eddleston (awful coffee though). I'd reckon that's in the order of 90 miles and has quite a lot of hills - good practice for you, DaveC, in the build up to the Snow Roads.

I am also tempted by the Moffat Toffee Revisited on 13 May but we have not decided when we'll be back from Yorkshire.

I will probably do the Moffat Toffee Reinvented audax on 13 May. Could give a lift to one to Galashiels. Anyone else interested?

I can't make that weekend as we have a family christening on that day in Leeds.

I've now booked and paid for the Deeside loop. We're now doing the Moss Trooper as my cycle mates father in law has a birthday party on the same day as the Snow Roads. The Moss Trooper is a 300 from Morpeth in Northumberland. We're going to be heading down the day before and staying in a travel lodge (family room) and then stay over the following night after the ride.

I'm now also looking for other 100 or 200's before the Deeside Loop too.

If anyone fancies a practice run tomorrow, CTC are doing a 76 mile ride to Kinross.

Via Cramond Brig out to bridge. After lunch at Loch Leven northwards to Milnathort, Mains of Condie, then Dunning, Powmill, Knockhill, Dunfermilne, Rosyth and return via the Kirkliston road.

Route can be viewed here - http://www.bikemap.net/route/1511011

Starting from Roseburn Path (bridge over West Coates), meet 09:45, departing 10:00 sharp.

    Maybe see you there?

Well, an enjoyable ride, if somewhat challenging at times. There were some pretty big hills to climb, though the reward was some exhilarating descents. The route was partly derived from the 'Three Glens Explorer' Audax: I presume the run to Dunning and back.

We experienced four seasons in one day: there was a cold north easterly wind which took some of the pleasure out of the mostly sunny run to Kinross. At lunch, by Loch Leven, it started to hail and got rather cold. We got more hail up in the hills: at least we didn't get wet, at least not until we returned to Edinburgh. On the climbs on the way back, especially coming out of Dunning, the sun was out, the wind was behind us and it got too hot.

Beautiful countryside around that part of Kinross. Will definitely be back at some point.

I've just entered the Moss Trooper at the end of May. Accomodation is also booked. Just a wee Deeside Loop to do as a pre ride.

Just signed up to the Bethany Sportive on 2 June

I have done this one twice before (since it starts just up the road from me). It is a nicely organised event with a lovely route and the money goes to charity.

£30 so a bit more than an audax but includes feed stops and timing.

Thats me just back 20.04hrs on the Deeside Loop. The Cairn o Mound was tough but luckily I didn't know about it until I was nr the top. Major tooth ache most of the way round kept my mind off aching legs etc... Glenshee was ok except for some burk on an electric bike harrassing me about how good it was. Got to the top and down to have fish n chips at Spittle hotel. Dry most of the was round. Occational hail. odd showers.

Cairn o mount is indeed a tricky schlepp - many many false summits, more than you can imagine even when you know they are there

200k, that's quite a ride with toothache. The route looks really interesting. Hard to believe you could be in Braemar and Forfar on the same ride. Did you try a Forfar Bridie?

Well done DaveC. That was quite some ride.

I am on hols in your home county at the moment (Hawes - not much signal here). Did circuit over Fleet Moss and Kidstones yesterday. Those passes are tough enough but at least you know they are there. The valley toads are just as tough however with lots of steep UPS and downs to sap the strength. Good cheese and beer though.

You can try cycling to the local Settle to Carslile train st, getting the train 40miles south and working your way back.

Have just committed five shiny pounds towards Schiehallion Sunrise in August, in an attempt to force myself to keep the diary clear.

The X means 'xtremely easy', yeah...?

On the same subject, guide to pronounciation? Skallion? Skee-hallion?

That's sounds like a difficult one. From the blurb "An X-rated event"

X for 'xtreme'? Sure you're ready to ride for 24 hours or more?

    'Sheehallion' I think.
