If you want to go through Cramond Village you'll end up going along the Almond path (much mud just now and two biiiig flights of steps) and you'll emerge at Cramond Brig regardless.

This route seems to keep you on (less muddy, and largely step-free) cycle paths for much of the way from Barnton.

By the way, I first thought (hoped, actually) that this was going to be a thread about cycling across the Dakotas in the USA. Fairly rugged states, not immediately obvious tourist destinations, I have long felt strangely drawn towards them. I was ready to sign up for the trip...

I wish! Thanks for the info I_T_M. It was the significantly less epic Dakota in South Queensferry. Then round the other way to work via Kirkliston.

Lovely ride altogether, had to resist the temptation for a run over the bridge and back! Had a bit of time in hand so took the long route beside the river. The two big staircases were easy compared to the big path covering tree...

which luckily enough was beside a little outcropping of bank, so bike and myself were hauled over the fence to continue.

There was a a few cases of this on the way too...

Just imagine if roads were left like this.

In a great bit of comedy... I left my wallet at Sth Queensferry, so looks like I'll be doing the route home as well!
