Please avoid the cycle path through Bruntsfield Links. Sheet back ice, particularly near the Bruntsfield end. I saw two cyclists come off in 30 seconds. Also saw someone come off by Dynamic Earth - although they were on the pavement.

  2. There's a LOT of ice about. I stuck to the main roads, which seem fine, certainly from my direction. The pavements looked awful in places.

No kidding. I was turning onto the links path from Brunstfield Place, guy at the crossing shouted at me, I turned, braked and SPLAT. As one of the many kind people who came to my assistance said, I probably would've come off anyway...

I'm very sore now, but think I'm fairly intact. May go get my ribs checked, but right now knee is sorest. Bike lost rear chain, and I walked it by tbw, who kindly put it back for me.

Shouted at lots of people to warn them including - I think - wingpig? Saw too many people cycling full tilt, including one with a baby in backpack. NOT sensible at all.

I've phoned the council and they are going to grit the path through the Links ASAP.

Lots of ice evident everywhere, I stayed on main road all the way to Gogar roundabout. Even frozen in the gutters in places so ztayed very primary. Colleage in changing rooms had come off on side streets near wester coates. Bruised and sore but largely pride dented as he had taken his spiky tyres off at weekend.

Hope you recover quickly SRD. Glad you were solo at time?
Could fit s/h studded tyre on back although some ice is beyond that.

@SRD, just close the shower doors cover the plug hole and fill to required level.

    ** Disclaimer **

This is not a sensible answer and I shall not be liable for any damage caused by such sillyness.

Bruntsfield Links looked dry at lunchtime but it also looked as-yet-ungritted, so it'll possibly re-frost tonight.

  15. I'll be heading out soon and remaining stuck (hopefully) to the main roads.

    http://maps.google.com/maps?client=opera&rls=en&q=hay+avenue+edinburgh&oe=utf-8&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&sa=N&tab=wl

seemed to gritting the roundbout, business centre car park and cakemuir up to the edinvar building car park.
very close to the innocent ;)
regardless, seems a strange bit to be gritting as a priority? (by that I mean the paths etc were like ice everywhere)
