'We' all know that K likes yellow - lots of it.

Today A posted this "who would have thought gold braided outers would look so right?"

Yesterday I decided to put a shorter stem on the white bike I'm taking to London on Wednesday.

The only suitable one was black (existing one silver), so I 'had' to change to black bars too...

Ah yes, the thread that brought us into the amazing world of brown mudguards.

Black and silver vs silver and black, all part of the plan.

  3. This is important stuff.

Funny, as well, how different things work for different bikes. On the X I wanted the orange cables to jump out and provide a splash of colour on the monochrome bike.

On the Kaff there's colourfulness already, and the gold cables, garish though that sounds, actually merge in with the colour scheme rather than standing out like the black ones did.

My bike is red, black and white/silver. Thinking Red cables would be over-egging it a bit (what with the rider's garish accessorising).

    Although...

Anth, have you noticed that the bang up to date Lothian Buses hybrid 10s are rockin' the saharalatte Kaff colourscheme now? You could take your bike on and it would be almost invisible.

  6. More worryingly I could pull alongside in traffic and be invisible! ;)

    saharalatte rocks!

I'm internally demon-rassling over the choice of gold brakes as spotted by Kap, or staying with black and keeping the gold bling to a more restrained level. There are also one or two brakes with touches of red on them, which fits the black/red/gold of the paint.

Does anyone have any recommendations for caliper brakes, purely in terms of performance? Then I can select colours.

Other than what min is on about, question of the day is, when is anth going to go get his light elecroplated with gold to bring in the bling.

    any recommendations for caliper brakes

I like my Shimano R650 - long drop so you can fit guards underneath.

Min those ribs are "cooling fins" ;)

    any recommendations for caliper brakes

Shimano 105 can fit a P35 SKS guard comfortably. As can the SRAM "Road" calipers (bottom of their range)

105 is a nice caliper. Solidly made and handsome. SRAMs are a bit more of cheese strength. But not a soft cheese, a hard cheese like a Parmesan.

On the off-topic of the cheesiness of calipers, is there such a thing as a caliper pad cartridge-holder thing where the pad-retaining bolt and the bit of the holder into which the pad-retaining bolt is screwed bolted are a: made of the same material so that they don't end up welded together and b: not made of cheese?

I have to admit it was bought when my main commuter was my Peacemaker - in white and red. If I was buying it anew I'd be looking to see if it was available in gold! (I know Ay-Up lights used to have a gold option).

@wingpig - the problem I have had is not the brake block holder and retaining screw welding together, it is the head of the screw being made of too soft a cheese and the screwhead / allen key head stripping

@kaputnik I've had that too, but only because the bolt/screw is usually welded to the holder, despite having been thoroughly lubed before insertion. If the screws/bolts weren't glued so tightly the cheese-strength Allen socket wouldn't be so much of a problem.
