Edinburgh council has found a couple of million down the back of the sofa.

BBC | Edinburgh City Council to spend £2m budget surplus

The article has a box out on "How some of the money is being spent".

Biggest items are street repairs and cleansing.

"80 new parking spaces for cyclists" ... filed under road safety measures.

[Admittedly the roads would be safer if you got 80 drivers out of their cars and onto bikes, but can you really call that a safety measure?] <-I'm not complaining like.

Were the roads really worse in 2005/6. I hae ma doots. Whatever it takes, as long as they do repair the roads, it is good.

I'll be claiming a couple of wheels off North Lanarkshire. I was out this morning photographing the offending hole which left me with two flat wheels. It's more than 7 cm deep and has a sharp edge from a stank.

The upcoming election might be part of my wheel damage campaign. Airdrie used to be the one of the safest of seats but this has changed.

because of the potholes the seat became less safe?

I don't think it's related to holes but the Airdrie Westminster seat has not changed hands since the 1940s. The Holyrood seat did last year. Councillors seem to be getting squeaky bums over this and decided not to charge for parking in town.

Parking Eye have tried to bill me for parking at Aldi in Airdrie. They're onto plums since I wasn't there. They assume the registered keeper was driving it. They want me to pay a penalty charge for a service which I did not require, request or receive.

Never pay bills from supermarkets for using their car parks. Not enforceable. Never even when they offer a reduction. Hold out for zero. Even if it was you, which in this instance it wasn't.

I know, I checked it out. I'm just putting all their letters up on the notice board.

This is actually useful to know since a lot of motorway service stations are doing the same thing with 2 hr limits. The next time I have to drive down to England I'll not worrying about stopping for a few hours zzzzzzzzz. I can just ignore the bill when it arrives. That info would have saved us having to sleep in a free Morrisons car park in Bracknell last June. It's handy for Legoland.
