A careful headline. Mine would have been:
"Attacked pensioner shoots assailants, killing one"
Subtitle "Gang lay in wait on popular cycle path"

Self-defence...perhaps feral youth might think twice about attacking and robbing cyclists if they thought they might get shot!! A friend of mine got a right drubbing from a gang of youths going through the Meadows one night on his bike, and ended up in hospital, and I wonder if he might have got off so lightly had he used his bike as a weapon and seriously injured one of his assailants.... probably would have been charged with using unnecessary force is more likely.

Nah, the polis dislike neds even more than we do. I sparked one out 14 years ago, which I'm glad to say was the last time I hurt someone on purpose, and there wasn't even a suggestion that I was going to be charged. Same situation, as it happens; gang of youths on the Meadows.
