The aim of the Edinburgh Cycle Challenge is to get as many of your colleagues as possible to ride a bike for just 10 minutes over the three week Challenge period, from Monday 10 to Sunday 30 May 2010. So far most of those who have signed up are from the Bike Station. Anyone else want to sign up?

    Hmmm. Possibly.

Not quite clear whether "as many" is assessed as a percentage. I guess it has to be, given the "population" bands for each category?

RJ - each organisation taking part is put into one of six categories depending on size, to give any organisation/department, big or small, a good chance of winning. These categories are:

    1. Very Small - 3 to 6

    2. Small - 7 to 19

    3. Medium - 20 to 49

    4. Large - 50 to 199

    5. Very Large - 200 to 499

    6. Corporate - 500+

The number of cyclists taking part for each organisation is then assessed as a percentage, to make it as fair as possible.

Organisations or departments of 1 to 2 staff can still record their cycling and enter in the draw for prizes, however they will not be eligible to win the Participation Award. (It's too easy to get 100% participation when there's only 1 or 2 of you!)

Just a quick reminder that the Edinburgh Cycle Challenge starts today - but it's still not too late to register! Just go to http://www.edinburghcyclechallenge.org.uk and sign up!

There are lots of great prizes to be won! From a Ridgeback bike to a spa day for two at Stobo Castle, and much more.

25% of us at work are doing this at the mo', with many more to come. Couple of them will be 'new' cyclists too.

Don't know about the 'challenge' aspect, but was quite chuffed to discover that I'd cycled 10 miles yesterday. Haven't had an odometer on my bike since about 1989 and had no idea at all what sort of mileage I was doing.

Miggy_magic - Glad to hear it's been so well received at your work! Good luck with the Challenge!

SRD - the good thing about the Challenge in terms of new cyclists is that they don't have to cycle far - just for 10 minutes, and can go in the draw to win a prize. And for regular cyclists like yourself you can go in the draw just for doing what you're already doing!

So has anyone (on here) actually won anything yet?

I want a chocolate tree voucher!

I do know someone who won cinema tickets, so I am now angling for an invite ;-)

Kim - if you (or anyone else) can encourage someone that hasn't cycled in a year or more to cycle for just 10 minutes, then you get a cinema ticket for yourself and for the new cyclist. And it's not just any old cinema ticket - it's a gold screen ticket for the Dominion!

See here - http://www.edinburghcyclechallenge.org.uk/cinema - for more details.

SRD - the spot prize winners are listed here - http://www.edinburghcyclechallenge.org.uk/spot-prizes Good luck!
