I'm sure it's just a teething problem.
Shame after all these years of waiting!
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 16years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

I walked down ther to the station on Monday and it's a lot better looking - and covered now so shouldn't be as windy.

• NETWORK Rail has admitted a software glitch in the new IT system that runs the escalators at Waverley station, meaning it will have to be replaced entirely.
Despite repeated repairs, the system is so ridden with faults that the six escalators built as part of a £7 million overhaul of the station entrance keep breaking down.
The first fault occurred within 24 hours of the opening.
Since the escalators first came into use on January 30, one or more of them has been out of order on most days.
"
Oh dear lord, you are joking. :-( Is the whole lot going to have to be closed down again?
"Is the whole lot going to have to be closed down again"
"software glitch in the new IT system ... will have to be replaced entirely"
Bit ambiguous!
Kinda implies that there is another system with different software and mechanical bits that operate steps, but,,,, I don't know!
what recombodna said
"Bit ambiguous!"
The Evening News? Never!
We'll just have to wait and see I guess. Perhaps they should just install a tram at the Steps instead??
"Perhaps they should just install a tram at the Steps instead'
Joking aside....
There should have been a tram stop AT Waverley Stepscalator.

Passengers crossing this magnificent bridge will soon encounter Waverley steps

You get off half way down and change onto a tram-replacement bus to complete the journey to platform level.
I don't know what's so difficult. London Underground has some far more impressive escalators that seem to have been working since they invented ones with steps.
"You get off half way down and change onto a tram-replacement bus to complete the journey to platform level."
Bwahahahaha!
@chdot: methinks wrong link? Assault on a takeaway driver no doubt serious, but fail to see the escalators in that story...
Perhaps this one?
'Waverley escalators flawed
NETWORK Rail has admitted the IT system that runs one of the key facets of the multi-million pound overhaul of Waverley Station is so ridden with faults it is being replaced entirely.'

P.S.:- only the IT system is being replaced. Which may include those motion sensor thingies they have on escalators these days to switch on the motors?
Did they buy the cheapest option... will they never learn...
"@chdot: methinks wrong link?"
Nah that's what happens with "9am News" link takes name of top story.
I'm still vaguely mystified as to why as to why escalators need an IT system.
Stepdoh said "I'm still vaguely mystified as to why as to why escalators need an IT system."
This is a requirement by the Escalators HR Department.
;-)
I'm still vaguely mystified as to why as to why escalators need an IT system.
If the moving stairs are switched on all the time (like they used to be in tube stations) then I suppose they don't need an IT system.
If however they want to save electrickery by having the moving stairs only operate when someone steps onto them (using sensors) then maybe they do need an IT system.
"I'm still vaguely mystified as to why as to why escalators need an IT system."
It's escalation...
The people trying to sort it every time must be getting depressed at the whole thing. They could do with a lift.
Oi. This is a slippery slope.
He stair-ted it!
Buh-duh-boom-tish.
Do you really need an IT system to do that, shurely jusht an infra-red switch and a timer. (Not that I'm speaking with any authority whatsoever, and I know i've just effectively described an IT system.) Escalators in foreign parts have been doing that for years. Bits of the Berlin U-Bahn for instance.
"Escalators in foreign parts have been doing that for years"
Yeah but they run on like clockwork.
Suppose it depends what 'IT system' means. Could be integrated chipsets running some custom software which has gremlins, or might be a weight limit cut-out malfunction caused by massively obese folk clogging up the escaliers?
Who knows?
