CCE Family Day

How's about a gentle, family orientated cycle then...

I'd suggest we have a bit of a pootle around quiet(-ish) roads and cycle paths, circular route, 10-15 miles or so, with a break for lunch. Probably 3 hours in total (my guys manage a day average of 5mph, so should suit even 5 year old legs).

Last time we cycled to Cramond and had a run round there, but the goal was meeting at Cramond rather than the cycle itself, so this time a circular route might make the cycle a bit more of a feature.

A Saturday would suit me best, so how about 3rd March, or have other folk suggestions?

I'm happy to make up a route (but I'm not a qualified ride leader or whatever), or again make suggestions.

Time to throw it open to the assembled masses...

Not sure my 5 yr old could manage 3 never mind 5 or even 15!!!

We have a trailer but that would not mean my two cycling which I guess is the point?

@DaveC - Hey, if they're enjoying being out with other kids, that's fine. I'm sure that swapping of "seats" could occur, and seeing other kids having fun on bikes might tempt them out of the trailer!

I'm sure the route/duration/distance can be amended to suit the interested parties...

DaveC - you might be surprised. K did 6.5 miles on the weekend, late in the afternoon. I think she'd be fine for 10-15m - especially with others to spur her on.

Also possibility of taking turns on tandem and tagalong.

can we bring family members and a friend, whos neither a woman , or an adult !Surely if its just a bunch of like mindeds then a trail leader isnt actually required , no insurance etc ? Or have i just failed my first step on the trail leader/bike expedition /duke of wherever training degree ? Sound great !

Yep, any that can tolerate children and the children's pace are welcome.

Morningsider and alanr joined us last time, with much enjoyment of alanr's trike. Arellcat just missed us, and not all brought small ones!

@splitshift - the unqualified comment was to provide fair warning that I could muck it all up and have a 1:3 hill we'd all need to clamber up. Hence if someone more able/experienced suggests a better idea, I'm happy to step aside!

I think CCE is sufficiently unofficial that 3rd party insurance, etc isn't required. Each should assume they're responsible for you and yours!

Treat it like any other internet date...

I could do the 3rd, and the two Sats before, but not the 11th. Would be nice to have the recombodnettes along if we can find a good date.

There is also half-term for those able to wrangle time off (not sure that will include me).

PS - can we rename this thread 'all ages, all genders, all abilities ride'?

The recombodnettes can make the 2 weekends before the 3rd.

I can't, although the admins might...

I'd thought better of the "family" as soon as I'd posted!

As for alternative dates, I'd have to push back to 24th March, or later - February is looking busy already!

Of course, if the majority prefer a February date, that's cool.

"I'd thought better of the "family" as soon as I'd posted!"

    Post in haste...

Family is a perfectly adequate catch-all word.

    More perfect than most families!

'all ages, all genders, all abilities ride'

    Are pets included??

    Wot about 'funny bikes'?

Funny bikes are, of course, particularly welcome, and doubly so if their owner lets others have "shots"!

    We'll have the Pino...

@roibeard ! in no way was i trying to cast nusturtioms ! Its some thing ive always wondered about, as i am involved with the ATC ,if not official event then am sure that I am allowed to take a small number of "friends" along with me as long as they /their carers/parents etc are made aware that we are on our own ! Common sense can sometimes get very blurred by people who dont actually do the stuff. The whole idea is great and if we can come along, from a slightly different geographical area, then kids see a wider use of bycicles, and not just by the "weirdos" that they know ( or live with and call dad !)so it continues to be mainstream ! Also, kids have the fantastic ability to make lifelong friends with anyone, from anywhere ! Without all the stuff that being adult brings with it !
Whenever, wherever, i would like to come along !

splitshift - agree all that and good for kids to see / be around people who are not just other kids parents. (as non-western cultures take for granted).

As roibeard said, one of the nice things about our cramond meet was that alanr and a mate of his also came along.
