    Less motor traffic?

    More/fewer people on bikes?

There were more buses than 'normal' (no doubt coincidence). Otherwise, I didn't notice anything in terms of car or cyclist numbers.

Apart from there being no lollipoperatives along Abbey Lane or the Canongate it didn't seem very different. This was one of the rare occasions when I knew it was half-term before I set off; as I don't get bank holidays I tend to have slight zombie-apocalypse moments when I hit streets which are usually busy.

It's amazing how clear the roads are when the schools are on holiday. #edintravel

The roads were hugely quieter this morning for this westward-bound commuter. In fact the entire Longstone and Calder Road area was so quiet that I negotiated both of my roundabouts without stopping or even following another vehicle.

Commute through meadows, Lothian road, west end to Manor Place was noticeably much quieter. Plus the bikes seemed to have bunched up much more. Ususally only pass 2-3 but today more like 6-7 and groups at Traffic lights.

However today did remind me that the cycle path through the meadows (east-west) is disastrous. I was out on the CX in the Pentlands yesterday and some of the paths were smoother than that thing!

Ah, is that what it was. I had that horrible feeling in my stomach that I was going to get to work and discover it was a bank holiday or something, and that I was the only one there.

  9. Strangely Jock's Lodge was stonkingly busy this morning. Way more than usual. I'd bumped into a friend before then and had a chat, so was running about 15 minutes later than normal, but still seemed a lot busier than I'd expected.

I went the quiet way to work so didn't notice until I got to Meadowplace Road and there was no lollipopist on the Toucan crossing that I make non-regulation road-to-crossing use of. I was blissfully unaware as I went past Corstorphine School a few minutes earlier, but the road past Gylemuir was much improved.

The cycle path across the Meadows does need to be resurfaced.

It most certainly does, it is terrible. One for our 5% cooncil money I think! The "tramline" illustrated there is nasty too.

I am on the bus as my legs are still shaky from flu so I didn't really notice a difference but then the place where I alwaysreally notice it is Duddingson Road and the bus doesn't go that way.

It's YEARS since I got a 'promise' that a small amount of basic maintenance would be done to cut channels to drain away the worst of the puddles.

Path definitely needs a major rebuild - including moving the lights and making it wider for peds/cycles.

It's not just uncomfortable but also fairly dangerous if it's busy. Especially if you're on slicks and hit the edge of one of them cracks as another cyclist passes close enough to kiss.

Either needs to be desegregated or widened to be like the Links path on the other side. I rarely need to use it but I tend to just ride on the left (as if on one of the other big paths) instead of trying to poke down the silly bike lane.

Had to bring the car to work and had to drop the wife off at Sherriffhall. Resulting in a very rare foray for me onto the City Bypass. Which was barely moving from about a mile or so west of Sherrifhall roundabout all the way to Baberton.

So no, half term has not been a positive thing so far. Hopefully back on bike/train commute tomorrow.

Yup I noticed but then it was 7.25 so less traffic than my usual time anyway...

At work I took the kids up Blackford Hill on a ramble, so yep, definite change there.

The big giveaway for me was that my son didn't go to school today. "Oh! It must me half term then." I said.

I wonder if many people tried cycling to work for the first time.

    Didn't see many cyclists today.

It was also definitely harder to turn right onto Holyrood Park Road from the Innocent due to car traffic.

Saw loads of cyclists today, though I'm still not calibrated to my current house-leaving time. Lots of extra cars in queues at all the junctions, too. Lots of people pulling out from behind buses into the queues of cars without looking.

I noticed loads of women last week. Including three of us being in an ASL all at once at one point.

On my short climb against the wind up to Waverley this morning, saw six other cyclists. All but one were women. Unexpected, and encouraging.
