Hmmm....Ended up putting my Spokes buff on baby yesterday, and it basically seemed to fit, and looked pretty cute.

More to the point, now the whole family wants one. Should we consider either 'baby buffs' or 'junior buffs' ? or just go straight to adult ones? And does anyone do large size ones?

I think I'd be inclined just to go for the adult ones if they fit. Child ones might get to a stage where they don't fit any more then you would need to get a new one.

The merino wool ones are about twice the size for some reason. Seems a bit unnecessary to me.

thanks Min, i may invest in a merino wool one then. i have a polar buff that feels tight. the spokes one is comfy though (for all of us, it appears!)

Buffs are the best invention - ever.

Re: sizing, my son (age 6) wears my skull cap under his helmet when its cold - doesnt seem that small for him, so I agree with min, just go for the bigger size.

I got a Tilley T3 hat during the week. I'm not sure how useful it will be for cycling but it has straps back and front to hold it on. It's made out of cotton duck like a Carradice.

Still using the Lowe Alpine trail cap with ear flaps today.

Tilleys are great Canadian hats - ours have been through quite a lot (although not as exciting as some of the claims made for them). We used them a lot when we were in the Danakil & before that the Sinai, but I also like them for drizzly/rainy weather here.

I particularly liked the story about the elephant which regularly eats and then poops out the keeper's hat.

After a wash the keeper puts it back on.

Personally I find that the adult buffs are too loose, ending up too far down, and I did purchase a junior one that is a much snugger fit which I prefer. I don't feel choked at all by it, and as they do stretch getting it over my bonce does not seem to be a problem at all. I have a Spokes buff and it is adult size and wear it doubled up with another one to feel warmer.

My research reveals that there is also a 'woman's slim fit'. unfortunately, I doubt these would be comfy for me -- too bad as i rather like looks of 'akua'.

@SRD I do have a woman's slim fit one too and that is better than the generic adult ones, and it is not as narrow as the junior one, if that is of any help.

Just buy three more Spokes Buffs. Then you can mix and match.

Tilley hats are fantastic, and yes WFB, you should be able to wear it cycling, mine only suffered brim folding above about 25kts on powerboats and the material stiffens when wet.
Haven't tried buff on baby yet... he's a little way off bicycle riding just now :-))

Hmmm, don't have a trailer... at the moment(!)
Perhaps a fresh thread required to ask about kiddy trailers (and how I get one on the train :-/ )

Interesting that the Tilley hat would work ok when cycling - fancied one for a while but wasn't sure how often I'd use it. A quick google for knots to kph suggests that it would work nicely for those days when hail is bouncing off my ears on the ride in.

    Hmm.

Best thing re Tilleys is that they float. so good for boaters. I also love the 'hidden' pocket in top, especially when I find money I stashed there many years earlier and had forgotten about - handy for unplanned pub stops!

Tried it this morning. There was a bit of a headwind in the morning when I was going down the hill so I secured the sides with the poppers and that firmed up the front of the brim.

Kept the rain off me and didn't get too hot which the Lowe Alpine is starting to do (9℃ this morning).
