  1. Finally getting round to setting up a BUG through ScotBUG. Still can't believe there's no cycling group here, and the transport department bounces me to the sustainability department and vice versa with no results. So sod it, doing it independently. Should be interesting.

mmm...I need to do this too. Our showers got gradually colder while i wondered (a) was it just me (b) was the Uni trying save money or (c) the environment...

Finally grabbed different bull by horns and contacted buildings and estates, and it was fixed next day!

  3. Hurrah!

To be honest I think there's a bit more freedom doing this this way.

Ah I set a BUG up about a few weeks ago and have filled in the forms for Cycle Friendly Employer scheme too. Dr Bike and friends were visiting and I met them for a chat which got me to finally pull my finger out and do something about it.

A couple of us pressured building facilities management to meet us in a monthly meeting to discuss the humdrum of cycle commuting life. Came to a head when it was proposed that to deal with the shortage of lockers (because more than 50% had missing keys or broken locks) that we would no longer be able to store stuff in them overnight and could just fight it out first thing each morning for the priveledge of having one during the day. Kinda defeated the purpose of the lockers so we managed to beat that proposal down and come up with a better solution (the status quo and get them to fix the lockers!) Other important issues that have been resolved are the showers (we managed to get them to rebuild the male showers, which were leaking badly and not correctly sealed) and cleaning (we are now priveledged to get a daily 11AM clean!)

They've been fairly receptive here, and have organised visits from Dr Bike previously, about twice a year. If you keep on at them, they generally get things done pretty quickly. As in it takes a few months, rather than lots of months.

I set up our BUG with prompting from Matt form Bikestation. I understand I am now being presented for an award as Cycling Friendly Employer at the Radiisson Blu hotel on 16.03.12. Again courtesy of matt/ cycling scotland. Quite possibly the easiest award I have ever won. I have been writing my speech but perhaps I have misintepreted my victory? Perhaps we are all going to meet up at the awards ceremony??
