I think it left the threadosphere and headed over to emailspace. I think Sally came up with the definitive idea of naming it something that could be shortened to PoP. My email inbox has been truncated to the end of 2012, so I don't have any of the original planning emails left to check.
I seem to recall the naming choice was influenced by the availability of potential twitter handles.
