    Is nice.

Similar proposed link on the front page ("We support this, and have create an eight point manifesto [link to manifesto page] of our own...").

Posted to all my social media outlets. I'll ask building management about postering or emailing known cyclists shortly.

    Who they are

Anthony Robson is a solicitor. Working for a bank. And originally from England . And commutes by bike. It’s as if he actively trying to be hated

    @anth *hugs*

Those that know you will probably forgive at least three quarters of these...

The website looks great. I'm happy to help out on the day. I was wondering about how to identify event marshalls though - I mean, it's not as though wearing a hi-vis vest is likely to make you stand out.

how long before some EEN commentator says 'pedal on pavement more like'

    ...

I'm happy to be a marshall / back rider whatever, as long as task can accommodate tandem with small stoker (who's fairly self-reliant). Trailer also available for picnics and rugs.

Tall cardboard hats shaped like the parliament/Miralles hair-dryer motif?

Is there time to get customised casquettes made, like anth's red CC number?

  6. Hmmmm. Could get cycling caps pretty cheaply, and stitching 'POP' down the stripe on the middle would work, just make them bold colours - though some of the number may be wearing helmets.

T-shirts might be easier (and similarly cheap to produce) but if the weather is cold or rainy or both then they might get covered up.

Could always get big flags to attach to our bikes, like the recumbent stylee things.

one other serious comment - this line on the top of the webpage "April 28th - make Scotland safer for bicycles!" needs to be bold, or bigger or something.

it's very hard to see (at least on chrome on a fairly generic monitor)

@SRD - agree with your observation on the title. There's a small amount of polishing to be done on the website. Going to remedy the background image tonight (it's a temporary one) to match the poster colour scheme and make it a bit more protesty. Will also sort out the visibility issue.

  9. Aye, agreed.

Also looking into the wording on the first page which intially could be read as stating the ride is in London. Just needs some easy tweaking to make it clear this is an Edinburgh/Scotland ride.

And we should run a sweep on the 'Pedal on Pavement' EEN comment.

"could be read as stating the ride is in London"

I thought that starting with a ref to London was not quite right, but was trying not to be uber-critical...(who me??).

that said, the message sent in the first line is important! so worth a tweak. plus all those links...then we'll all share like mad.

  11. @SRD, it might not always seem it, but the advice is appreciated.

thanks, all, lots of last minute changes will have to happen today. We were all cross-eyed with tiredness last night - forgot even to watch Homeland

@morningsider - good point about Marshalls. Maybe we all need some of those Tibetan-style peace flags that some of Laidback's trike customers have to render their contraptions less invisible.

    *ahem*

"Could always get big flags to attach to our bikes, like the recumbent stylee things"

I mean, it's not as if you have hundreds of emails on this to read and are therefore unable to read this entire thread... ;)

I like the idea of caps. My kids will certainly want one (but they'd also want a flag as well). Those and hi viz vests for marshals should stand out like sore thumbs since people will be demonstrating the effectiveness of all the safety in numbers by eschewing PPE for the day.

  16. "... since people will be demonstrating the effectiveness of all the safety in numbers by eschewing PPE for the day."

I'd love this to be true, but I fear it won't be!

"I'd love this to be true, but I fear it won't be!"

    Ditto.

On the day, it will be impossible to know if people have left their 'commuting gear' at home.

Of course some people will have ridden some distance, largely on their own, so will have what they 'normally' wear.

I hope there are a lot of children and expect a high proportion will have 'gear'.

It could be argued that everyone should wear hi viz, to demonstrate against the 'need'.

    But...

On subject of caps, I've found a place that will do a custom cap design and print at £6.50 per cap, with a minimum order of 25 pieces (=£162.50)

I'll raise it with the "central committee" to judge appetite, I might suggest we tack a couple of pounds on to raise a small amount of funds to cover the likes of website hosting.

Although one of the things we're also trying to do is get together all sorts of different cyclists. There might even be some people on Moultons...

I'll bring my kids in the PPE they usually wear i.e. none. Although Ellen now has some fantastic Dutch faux sheepskin handlebar mittens to keep her wee paws warm.

@Kaps. (boom boom) see how many pre-orders you can get at £9.50 a piece to minimise the chances of being left with a huge stock at the end of the day (or feeling you need to give them away). I'll take four.

"Although one of the things we're also trying to do is get together all sorts of different cyclists."

And people who ride bicycles and people who don't feel confident enough on city streets.

"There might even be some people on Moultons..."

    Non sequitur.

As well as a printable poster, please may there be a printable multiple-copies-per-sheet flyer (inc. QR code to website, feed and hashtag) for printing, chopping and tucking between the brake cable and top tube of bicycles in racks on streets and office car parks?

    Posted 13 years ago #
  23. I believe that's the plan - certainly I'm hoping for some for my work car bike park.

@Wingpig - yes we've got a template from Cycling Dumfries for an advertising strip that with the aid of a slit in one end can be tied around a cable / tube / seatpost of a bike.

There will also be a flyer with some more details once exact route, meeting point and a few more things are clarified. Will make these available in a variety of sizes.

All with have QR code / website / twitter / Hashtag details.

The main "launch" poster is completed and we'll get it up on the website today. Hope to come up with some more poster / placard ideas on ongoing basis.

Really well done on getting this launched guys.

Couldnt make it today as so rammed at work, may not be able to make the event itself, as supposed to be in High Court on jury service.

However, if you need any volunteering / posters put up, whatever, all too happy to get stuck in, just let me know via twitter.

    cheers

I've just noticed that the first page of the website doesn't say when on the 28th to turn up at the Meadows.

@Kaputnik, I'll have a cap if you do them.
Also in designing the flyers to stick on bikes etc, can we have a monochrome suitable one for those who can't print colour/can't afford to print colour?

@Smudge - absolutely. We've zero budget, and any colour printing is going to be done either out of people's own pockets or in the office when the boss ain't looking!

So photocopier-friendly versions will be done.
