I lost my tool saddle bag on my trip to Arran on Wednesday. :-( So I thought about a replacement and recalled a link on here for some Gentlemens Tool Rolls and thought "I can do that".

I have used heavy duty water proof canvas and a simple climbing sling length to make the tie. I'd like a leather strap & buckle but that may prove more difficult to make.

I may try changing the position of how I attach it as I have a brooks saddle and could use the loops on the seat.

I also have a few ideas of how I could improve it, like a pocket closed with a large press stud fastener in one of the slots for money etc... Any other ideas? Does anyone know any freinds who have a machine which could sew initials on? I thought abut making a few for close freinds for Christmas.

I'm thinking of knocking a few up, as they are easy to do, does anyone fancy one? at cost.

Dave, great job you've done - very professional and looks exactly like the one I paid good money for :) Somewhat amusingly, we've used exactly the same rainbow-coloured strapping to fasten ours onto our bikes!
I don't know how possible it would be, but do you think you could design a fan-shaped one that rolls into more of a cone shape, that can be wedged directly below the saddle (above, rather than against the seatpost)

Aye, I could do that very easily. I just chose that shape as it is straight forward to sew and wastes less material. Its a bit wide to be honest as its 4" 2" 4" for the pocket/space/pocket. I think I may make a smaller / narrower roll next to see how it fits under the seat. I've turned it 90 degrees now so its more like a tiny Carradice. If you see me tomorrow you can take a look. I need to find some nice classy plain straps to use next. Might look at rubberised canvas as used for making Gaitor under boot straps. Maybe Tiso has something in their Leith shop as they do repairs and may stock that material. need to find a buckle supplier too.

@DaveC can't recall the thread, but Arellcat posted one about a place near Musselburgh that specialises in repairing waterproof fabric and clothing. Maybe they could get you something.

The one I bought uses an old fashioned leather buckle and strap from a toeclip pedal to fasten it shut. I added the rainbow strap just to make it a bit more solid, probably not needed, more for peace of mind.

Bingo! I thought I recognised that style of fastener... I have a set of toe clips also. Cheers for the info.
