    "MAWIL" (from other thread).

Love it. Got my first* piece of lycra for my 40th birthday, followed by cycle jersy for Christmas, so I guess that's me too.

*if you don't count the handmedown tights for skiing from my Dad when I was 16; i never wore them on the bike anyway.

    "40th birthday"

    Really?? Must be the cycling.

    Comfy isn't it?

    'Ere, less of the MA=40

I'm pretty sure there isn't universal agreement on the definition, so it's pretty meaningless.

Oh, and I don't fancy having a MA wife...

    MA=60 in my view

Congratulations, SRD on the birthday and the lycra. It's a long and slippery slope on both counts and soon you'll be putting the general public off cycling along with the rest of us.

I was talking about this with my boss today, occasioned by none other than CCE's Greenroofer.

    Middle aged pros:

    1) I was impressed by his shed. Shed love is entirely middle aged.

    b) I can't abide Radio 1 or 2, preferring Radio 4 and 6. Radio 6 pretends to be cool and alternative, but it's run for and by people who were young and sexy in the 90's.

    fourth) I've got arthritis.

    Middle age cons:

    A) When in B&Q, I still look at the power tools with an eye to zombie apocalypse rather than DIY

last) I can eat whatever the hell I like and still not chub out

    2) Does an untidy bedroom count?

@SRD - Sorry to disappoint, I'm not (yet!) there, I'm just married to an older, can't possibly be middle-aged yet, woman...

my 30s were way better than my 20s, which were definitely better than my teens...can only hope the trend keeps up :)

Was this me? I wouldn't actually describe myself as middle-aged (though I will be 40 next birthday :o( )
it is just a useful acronym which covers the stereotype I wanted to portray.

I was reading a magazine once that had a section on "middle aged women and.." something I forget*. One of the women was 37. I googled it and apparently you're middle aged at 35.

    *must be old age

Nah. Definitely 40, I never needed facial moisturizer before, and now I am going through buckets of it, and my skins now does that 'crepey' thing the adverts are always going on about...and wrinkles :(

Maybe they'll increase the middle-age lower limit from ((three score and ten)/two) now that the availability of good food and healthcare in some societies have made reaching seventy reasonably routine.

    They're not wrinkles, they're laughter lines ;-)
