Yep, but I'm pretty sure it's our old friend the troll, now wearing aggressively anti-car colours...

Yup all the usual frothing nutters are out posting to their sock puppets as always. No point playing anymore as they're the only ones who can be bothered trawling through pages of the same old pro (speeding) car, anti everybody else drivel.
Time to wait for the next one to try to inject a little commonsense!

Cost me 52 quid the other week.
Didn't realise I split my tire when it exploded after hitting a pot hole near John Lewis.Trip to bike shop thinking it was puncture ended up in tube exploding at 110 psi outside shop. 42 quid for a tire and another inner tube later I felt very poor.

Invoice the council (seriously).

Disposed of the tire at the Bikechain so doubt there is a claim? However if there is I'd be more than happy to pursue it.

Hi everybody, I've had a look at this forum from time to time & thought I'd finally add my tuppence worth.
Why does everybody get so hot under the collar about the views of a few nutters? Why even go onto the Evening News website in the first place? The usual suspects will be having a rant & you will get depressed. It doesn't take much searching on the web to find maniacs mouthing off on any subject you care to mention (present company excluded)- anti-bike views are at the mild end of the rascist, anti-semitic, religious cobblers you can find without trying very hard.
I just got back from a spin around East Lothian, the sun was shining, birds singing, cheery greetings from dog walkers etc. Stuff the readership of the E. News.Posted 13 years ago # -
I suppose there is the zero tolerance view that if we let a few nutters away with their comments then others might believe them.
When they came for the cyclists I did nothing…

By replying it shows that somebody has read it which puts petrol on the fire. It is also difficult not to come across as holier-than-thou, which doesn't go down well.

So should Rosa Parks have stood up?
Posted 13 years ago # -
@wfb, I understand what you're saying. Sometimes though it's just not worth arguing with folk who are just looking to wind up as many other folk as possible.
Posted 13 years ago # -
Comparing somebody who replies to anti-cyclist posts on the Evening News website with Rosa Parks! She could have been lynched. The worst that will happen to you on the E. News forum is being called smug.
Posted 13 years ago # -
Ahhhh, then in the words of Frederick Frankenstein we should proceed with quiet dignity and grace.
Posted 13 years ago # -
Unclejoe, have you missed the number of cyclists killed in Edinburgh of late?
Posted 13 years ago # -
No, but are you saying that the pillocks who post on the E. News were responsible? They are just sad wee nasty people who don't deserve a response
Posted 13 years ago # -
Then you lose nothing by setting them right but if you fail to stand up against a lie you risk it being seen as the truth.
Those days are over.

WFB. Logically then I would have to prioritise all those issues that are important to me (in no particular order) Neocolonialism, Climate Change, Rascism, Religious Nutters, Overpoplation, Allotments, Dumbarton Football Club, Bicycling, Cairngorm ****ing Funicular Railway, etc, then seek out the forums where they are discussed and put all the wrong-thinking people right. There are not enough hours in the day.

Ahhhh, then you could arrange for one of your four kids to enjoy chess then find yourself driving down to Ayrshire and spending Saturday in a school near Irvine while he plays in a tournament.
My Facebook page has my religion listed as Maltodextrin. He's a sort of blue disgruntled man. Not sure if that counts as a nutter but I got it from Radio 4's Fags, Mags & Bags. I'm also an ordained minister in the Church of the Latter Day Dude and have in the past worshiped the Noodly Apendage of the FSM. The only things I do religiously would involve wire spoke wheels or Star Trek.
So I'm reading stuff on an iPad and watching Voyager. I did some school work a couple of hours ago. Still a few chess games to go.

Could I have some of whatever you are smoking?
Posted 13 years ago # -
As you would guess I'm sticking to a fairly strict drug regime to keep my mind limber.

Il dude rhino Leaving that predictive text
Uncle joe is only advancing the line normally taken here that it is pointless to respond to the comments tho I was enjoying polish tam's pro-cycling alter ego. I think we just got stuck in recently as you said because ofhe 4 recent deaths
Picture of primary pupils cycling on page 2 today (or maybe yesterday). Hopefully the paper itself is going to stick to positive coverage
Pentlands were glorious today

Bit spoiled for choice, weren't we? I plumped for the Fife option since I've never been over the bridge on my bike before, but I did browse some route porn in the Pentlands and East Lothian regions.
I guess it was a lovely day to drive around too, but if I'd been in a car, I'd not have heard what I did as I passed a kid meeting what I will assume was Favourite Grandad: him making a pretty darn impressive evil villain laugh, and her hysterical screamgiggle bouncing round the street. I did in all honesty think: I feel smug and self-congralatory now.

what balls. why does the scotsman even let this debate happen on its comments thread,I woulda modded large parts of that out ages ago. clicktrolls.

wfb: "I'm also an ordained minister in the Church of the Latter Day Dude"
From their website: "Come join the slowest-growing religion in the world – Dudeism. An ancient philosophy that preaches non-preachiness". Think you might get de-frocked.

ruggtomcat- 'cos a lot of people enjoy the frisson of reading nasty stuff. It's a bit like tuning in to "Top Gear" & spending 30 minutes shouting at the telly.
Posted 13 years ago # -
*looks at his own hand as it feeds the trolls*
Can someone do me a favour and bite this? I've having willpower problems.
Posted 13 years ago # -
I love top gear....
Posted 13 years ago # -
Dudeism isn't that ancient. As far as I know it doesn't predate the Poor Huron statement, the original one of course.
Based on the experience related by others I appear to be much more mellow on the road than many bicyclists, in the parlance of our times.
