Not exactly cycling but saving resources.

    Tonight, 31st March 2012 between 8.30 and 9.30 pm. It's lights out...

So well publicised that this is the first I've heard of it. Ah well, too late too late :-(

I reduced my Earth Hour activity to a single 60W lightbulb. I had the notion that it was better than burning candles that I keep for power cuts.

Seems the main news missed it as they were too preoccupied with the faint risk of perhaps not having access to unlimited quantities of petrol/diesel at some indeterminate point in the near future... Maybe. Wish they'd show as much concern over the very real risk of having none, or none they can afford, in the middle to distant future and perhaps consider seriously either sorting out viable alternatives or reducing consumption!

What's with all the candles? Surely a less efficient and more carbon-emitting way of lighting up than a bulb?

But then again I'm just a grumpy cynic who thinks well-monied NGOs could find better ways of spending their funds than organising conscience-cleansing publicity stunts like Earth Hour.

As with candles so with light bulbs. If my carbon footprint calculation is correct, my kids walking to school, me cycling to work, all our recycling, always using the train when we can, drying laundry on the line etc. count for almost nothing beside the massive carbon emissions associated with buying and owning stuff, especially a car.

I'd like to think that I'm in a better place carboncentrically than your average Scottish punter, but I'm probably horrifically bad when compared to most people in the world.

I missed. Even worse was the fact I left the 30 lumens pico projector on its timer at showroom. Storage heater was off though. Don't have a car or. patio heater so maybe balances out. Projector is low power too.
