Brr, it's a chilly Gilly here! -3C Glasgow and Edinburgh; -7 at Braemar. Fine, frosty start Cent & South Scotland. Light rain in the North.

Careful out there.

Lovely ride in despite being on the "slow" bike and loaded up with towel & clothes for the week ahead. -2.8 deg when I left but lovely and bright with no wind. Little ice on roads but a wee bit on the Innocent (I went on the bit west of Duddingston).

My hands were cold this morning.
Posted 12 years ago # -
My phone predicted it was -4 but I didn't beleive it. Perhaps near 0 but now minus 4.

It was pretty cold, my summer gloves were an unwise choice.
Posted 12 years ago # -
Aye, it was cold, I had the full Gimp suit on again this morning ;0
Posted 12 years ago # -
I had double gloves on!

My phone said -2°C this morning but I was walking in so put my hands in my pockets. My right index finger got a bit cold at the tip yesterday morning in the crinkly SealSkinz, though the left was fine; until shifting my bars about it was always my thumb-tips which discovered glove-inadequacies.

Hmmm.
I dispensed with the jacket this morning - t-shirt + midlayer. I did have full finger gloves, but back in the normal cycling cap rather than the ear-covering beanie as well.
Might have been a bit warmer at 8.10am?

My fingers can be cold on the bike these days even if I am roasting. This morning I could feel my hands sweating even though the tips were still in pain from the cold.

It was 0.6ºC outside when I ate breakfast this morning, but about 1.5ºC when I rode to work. I was grateful for my Buff under my helmet and covering my ears, and was nice and warm with t-shirt, long-sleeved layer and jacket, but I expect to dispense with one of the base layers when I go home. My Sealskinz gloves were just right today, which was a novelty for my fingers.

It was 2.0ºC at commuting time this morning, and snowing quite effectively in Mt EH10. But the westerly breeze meant I was shotblasted with sleet; I had to stop to clear my glasses after about 3 minutes of riding. Brrr! Still fine for slicks though.
The temperature line for the KB weather station has plummeted since 1800 yesterday.

Eeh, 'orrible this morning! Forgot my waterproof gloves were in the back of the car, which had already departed for work with Mel. Fingerless it was.
Just a t-shirt under the cyclejersey.com windcheeta, but that jacket is ridiculously warm, so no need for anything else. This rain (and rain I cycled through yesterday) proved a little too much for it, with some moisture making its way through. I think I'll still use it for torrential commutes for the awrmth factor though, and it's only at the very end of the ride that water starts to penetrate.
Troos utterly soaked through, but skin is waterproof ;) Waterproof shoes all fine and well if you don't have socks that gradually soak downwards.
We've got floor radiator thingies run round the side of the desks here, and everything is drying nicely on there. Should be warm for leaving for home!

It was raining in Livingston when I cycled from the station to the office. It is snowing now.
Posted 12 years ago # -
Figured it would be too warm for waterproofs so just stuck my orange specs on and pretended it wasn't that bad... It started to snow....
Posted 12 years ago # -
Lucky you, Anth! I've taken the hanger approach and am praying for a drying miracle before I leave the office else I suspect I'll be the opposite of toasty upon departure!
Other than the soaking this morning, my commute was relatively quieter than I'd expected for being the first day back after Easter for most (I was in the office Friday and Monday).

Blizzard conditions on the hills of EH23 this morning. Actually had to pour water out of my boot when I got into work. Feet still defrosting...

Known-tobe-not-waterproof shoes were soaked through and sloshing for the last mile. Sealskinz not quite up to preventing the sensation of fingers being made of hollow plastic tubes, but I'd not seen the snow in the south when I went out to stick the recycling by the gate and guage the temperature. The rain changed to sleet at Abbeyhill so I diverted to take the long way in past Pollock. Shorts soaked but phone safe in nappy bag in pocket. Pannier starting to leak through to the contents where the flap couldn't quite close due to the large number of shirts within. Despite being wring-out-able my cheapy Lidl base layer (worn as the top of two layers) stopped any snow getting through to my underlayer. Perhaps it's because snow and sleet lands slighty more gently than rain.

It was very icky this morning and I wore waterproof trousers for the second time this month (and year). I see from the traffic cams that snow is lying on the road at Soutra (just in case anyone is tempted to extend their commute - nice cakes at the Flat Cat).
Posted 12 years ago # -
Shorts, and no overshoes were definitely a huge mistake today, it didn't seem that cold when I left?
The last 5 miles were absolute torture, can honestly say my feet and legs haven't been so cold in years, pushing down on the pedals was so sore. I'm still cold now! brrr!Posted 12 years ago # -

Don't forget taxis take bikes - you can afford it (occasionally) with all the money you've saved cycling.

Looks like I had the right idea and got the bus this morning - hope you all warm up soon and don't get frostbite.
Wait - isn't it April? It should be getting warmer shouldn't it?
No snow in Balerno when I left - just heavy rain but when I got off the bus, at Haymarket, it was snowing
Posted 12 years ago # -
Going over Soutra would be a "bit" of an extention to the commute; but what/where is the Flat Cat?
Posted 12 years ago # -
I was fortunately too early to get snowed on but it was bitterly cold, waterproof jacket and trousers were a win but no gloves was a painful fail! Gloves tonight for sure... Rotten weather for April, probably my fault for washing and servicing the tourer (sigh). Def not skirt on a bike weather though, fair weather cyclist or not! :-O

Flat Cat Gallery in Lauder - wee cafe attached. Always fancied it, but never actually stopped by.
Posted 12 years ago # -
*Puts hand up*
I wore a skirt! I got snowed on too.
Posted 12 years ago # -
Flat Cat is definitely worth stopping at, and even designing a bike route around it (there are some lovely roads round there). The cakes are super special and there is some nice art.

The wife phone daround 09:00AM this morning to say there was snow in Gorebridge.
