Just ahead of the opening of Evans tomorrow I thought it was time Edinburgh had a site listing all the bike shop/repair/hire businesses.

I've covered all the ones I know and only forgot to photograph one of them! (Plus one I don't really know where it is!)

    Bicycle shops in Edinburgh

PM me if you see any mistakes/omissions.

    Thanks.

Was more intended for people not familiar with some/all bikes shops in town!

    I.e. people 'thinking' about cycling.

Aldi also have bike accessories and related staff on sale from time to time. Their clothing range is usually better with more choice.

You missed the Halfords at Straiton although, strictly speaking, it's in Midlothian...

No, I wasn't planning to list/photograph them all.

    There's one at H Gait.

    "strictly speaking, it's in Midlothian"

    Disallowed then.

I spotted the new shop and grabbed some photo's of it today as well, Shop Front and View inside

It looks like a nice big shop, I just hope that the new shop is a good sign of growing market and that none of the existing shops nearby suffer.

The "snow" should allow them to catch up.

Pedals just up from the Kings do an equally good service. Though last time I was in they were mobbed too.

Not technically a shop - would a based-in Juniper Green mobile bike repair business count for the list?

    Posted 11 years ago #
  14. Aye, of course it would, BikeFan...'cos Just Bike Repairs is the best repairs service you'll come across.

They work with Chain Reaction and Wiggle to offer the best parts prices in town, can turn bikes around way quicker than any of the bike shops, and they come to you too, at your home or work.

They'll do discounts for multiple bikes, cut-price group bookings, corporate sessions, etc...

Pay by credit card, Paypal or cash, anywhere.

Totally revolutionary way of doing business, and in my opinion the best service available, really!!

    Check them out at http://www.justbikerepairs.co.uk

errr....xcmatt - do you have any conflicts of interest to declare? none of us mind you promoting a business, and we positively welcome bike shop guys posting on here, but that reads more like an advert than a recommendation.

"do you have any conflicts of interest to declare?"

Don't think it's actually a "conflict of interest" - if you click on user name it goes to JBR web site.

It was missed from "NEW Bicycle shops in Edinburgh web site"

    Now added -

    http://edinburghcycleshops.wordpress.com/2012/07/17/just-bike-repairs

No doubt that site will soon have http://citycyclingedinburgh.info on its list of "Useful Links"!

  17. More a vested interest - does read like a sales pitch though, and not 100% transparent ;) (though it could be argued that because it doesn't read like a 'genuine' customer review and so is blatantly the business owner that there is actually transparency and so the post can be read accordingly...)

    Maybe.

    I've confused myself now.

Not sure about 'revolutionary' (but then I have a bugbear about inappropriate superlatives), but does seem a good idea.

As for 'working with' Wiggle and CRC, I presume this simply means 'have a business account with'.

Matt - just get your business name as your log in name. Makes it much easier to communicate.

P.s. why not just get trade accounts and under cut CRC/Wiggle if you can. 'Working with them' is surely just accepting that people will be bringing you parts bought there for you too fit no?

Revolutionary as in going round and round surely? Maybe that is just revolving? But EBC been using it for donkeys?

Anyone know anything about fine-bicycle.com? Their web site was supposed to go live in May and at the Scottish Bike show, they were talking of opening a shop in Edinburgh.

  21. Aye, that's right...xcmatt is Just Bike Repairs! Sorry for the blatant advert...couldn't help myself, and didn't realise I can change my username. I'll do that!

In response to tbc...we have trade accounts for the run-of-the-mill stuff, and can get 90% of people back on the road same day, just like the bike shops.

It's the top-end stuff, for the people like me who have very specific requirements, the weird and wonderful, any accessories or clothing, all that stuff which comes from Chain Reaction and Wiggle. It means we have no minimum order values and can order parts immediately every time, at the best prices. Okay, it means we don't have the range of clothing, accessories, etc like the bike shops, but that's not why we're here...we're Just Bike Repairs!!

    Example...Michelin Pro 3 Race tyre:
    The Bike Chain price...£37
Best special offer trade price to Just Bike Repairs...£16+VAT
    CRC's price with free delivery...£18
Therefore Just Bike Repairs price is £18. Less than half the LBS price.

Just Bike Repairs get a small commission from CRC or Wiggle, our customers get the best deal, nobody goes home feeling ripped off, everyone's a winner! I'm telling you....this is the future of bike servicing!!

    Cheers, guys....!!

Not suprised they are cheaper seeing as they import them. They will be lucky enough to make a larger margin than us selling them at that price too than us selling them at the rrp they suggest.

    It's a funny old world ain't it....

    Posted 11 years ago #
  23. I'll be honest, I've no idea how Chain Reaction do it (well, I know how they do some of it, but some of it baffles me).

Out of that £18 example for the Pro 3, they pay 20% VAT, running costs, staff, etc...then they give us a few (not many, but some) percent commission! And that's selling direct to the public for less than trade price! They clearly have a few more percent to play with than the rest of us? How? Who knows! That can't all be buying power...

Don't get me wrong, I'm not anti-bikeshop... the bike shops will always be a necessary part of the bike industry, no matter how the web takes over in terms of parts prices (we all like a touch and a feel, right...ooh-errr) but for me, setting up a repairs business in this internet-based era...I'm not gonna try to compete with CRC! Or Wiggle!

Oh and to whom may I say I am speaking? Is this Iain Sked, or one of his (Maxxis) minions?

Skeddy! No way. I am Mark. Ian is out in Livingston running an outdoor ebay site and doing pretty well last time i saw him.

Repairs as you say are a good way to keep a business going well. So much so we have a massive add on to our business coming up that will build on this area in a big way. Should be launching in a couple of months once i get my finger out and finalise the planning.

    Posted 11 years ago #
  25. Ah, Mark....I don't believe I know you, but I used to work at the Bike Chain for a while, right at the beginning. With Iain, Tim and Andy. Didn't last long, though...I didn't like the view from the shop, it made me unhappy! And in my book, that's reason enough to leave a job!

    Cheers.....Matt!!
