    Potatolicious didn't last for more than a few months and must have closed at least four years ago so I reckon Calzeat must have done better than Morningsider says (or was there another business in between, or a long period lying empty?).

    Who is moving/expanding to Morningside? Bike Smith or Cycle Republic? I'm presuming the former because the shop window looks that way.

    I saw a blue GoCycle in the window of Cycle Republic in Birmingham. It was about £3200. I remember when the bike was about £1100 when newly on the market.

    You'd like to think that the permanent window display won't be like that at Haymarket where crash helmets are subjected to intense heat behind the south facing glass. I certainly wouldn't be buying one of those.

    Cycle Republic is opening in the empty retail unit in the Scottish Widows building on Morrison Street (what used to be the restaurant Roti). Expected to open in March.

    Good news that there's another shop in Morrison Street after Macdonalds closed.

    The gents toilets in that restaurant were very impressive, possibly second only to those in the Methodist Tabernacle in London.

    For those in Fife, new shop taking place in Inverkeithing, Ryan's bike surgery. Repairs, more than shop, will stock some bikes. Only appear to be on Facebook at the moment...

    Looking at the the fb posts, the new shop seems to be owned by the person who used to own Sandy Wallace...

    @baldcyclist

    That person is, er, Sandy Wallace. My guess is that he is putting up some finance and mentoring to allow Ryan to set up on his own. But that's speculation on my part.

    In my experience, Ryan is a good mechanic and an approachable guy, so I hope his new venture is a success. Sometimes having shops in the same business near each other actually benefits all of them, as the area then becomes a 'destination' (cf the West Port second hand bookshop cluster). Competition doesn't necessarily mean less income.

    @panyagua - hope you've defrosted...

    Same experience with Ryan and I wish him well. See this really as an expansion and a sign that business is going well, rather than a rivalry...

    Guess it is more direct competition to Dave in Aberdour, though I would hope that there is plenty of work for both?

    I thought I (loosley) knew one of the owners of Sandy Wallace Cycles (same child minder, he comments on my pashley from time to time at drop-off). Think they also own one of the bike shops in Dunfermline, can't think of the name off top of head.

    Sandy Wallace, and Ryan appear to no longer be involved in the shop, at least at director level. https://www.endole.co.uk/company/SC316817/sandy-wallace-cycles-ltd?page=overview

    @paddyirish

    Thanks, yes, I can feel my toes again now...

    I think Dave in Aberdour has enough loyal clients to keep him busy and I hope the extra maintenance 'capacity' in the area reflects a growing number of cyclists, so yes, with any luck there will be enough work for everybody.

    @baldcyclist

    Yes, Sandy sold the shop a while back to some of the other guys who work there, so although they continue to use his name, he no longer has an interest in SWC.

    Meant to add this last week -

    Apparently due to be opened on the 22nd by UK's most famous cyclist/campaigner.

    @IWRATS :D No! Just thought I'd investigate chdot's "apparently" and then provide confirmation for all.

    An opportunity for CBoardman to back POP and CEC's pro-cycling policies, I guess.

    "thought I'd investigate chdot's "apparently" "

    Thanks.

    I knew various people had had emails but hadn't seen 'announcement'.

    "An opportunity for CBoardman to back POP and CEC's pro-cycling policies"

    I'm sure he would/will.

    Presume appropriate people are getting in touch.
