Edinburgh Cycle Hire (not to be confused with businesses of same/similar names in more recent years) opened in a small part of AT in 1978. The hire operation was essentially seasonally and this shop started selling new bikes (helped by an expansion into the basement).
The EBC rebranding happened in about 1980.
The original shop closed a few years later.

Old thread, but I couldn’t find a newer one ‘documenting’ new shops.
Don’t know how many have appeared in last five years, but I know there are some I still haven’t visited!
Just came across this on the web while looking for something else.
Certainly seems to be different from most.
