Noticing a lot more of it, the current Halfords ad opens with their bike sales as well.
Of course Mrs Smudge and I both watched the above advert and thought, "Yeah, they're really let you take your bike into their nice clean hotel room...." (unless of course you're an olympian with a camera crew in tow!)Posted 13 years ago # -
Saw this in my hotel room in MK. In that one, of course there was no bike parking. Taking into room? Nope. Instead receptionist provided a sort of valet bike parking service every time I arrived, wheeled it to me when I wanted to go somewhere. I think they propped it in the staff room...
Worked fine but I did suggest they invest in some Sheffield stands or similar in case any future guests are cyclists. One of the reception chaps actually bought a bike while I was staying there, so I was able to give advice, which was promptly ignored! Apparently Evans (they've had one in MK for yonks) is too expensive for hotel workers.

In my experience, hotels are not like B&Bs. Hotels have their own cleaning contractors that do their thing, and you are at (reasonable) liberty to use your hotel room as you require. Consequently I take my bike into my hotel room.
Of late that's been my Brompton, which can go pretty much everywhere anyway, but I've also taken my little black recumbent into the room. You just go into the lobby, get yourself booked in, wheel the bike into the lift and away you go.
It was fun in the US when the monstrousbike had to go up on its end in the lift, and manoeuvering it through strongly sprung double doors and around sharp corridors was entertaining.
I used to rather enjoy phoning conference-hosting hotels before my arival and asking what bicycle storage they had, and taking apart their answers. Most hotels are just not equipped for cyclists.

I took one look at all the fire doors and stairs I had to navigate to get to my room and abandoned the idea of taking the bike to my room, folded or not.
The 'valet bike parking' arrangement was fine, except when reception was busy with folk checking out or getting their conference papers printed, etc. I still got to conference venues quicker than those in taxis, much to their surprise...
