"Er, so now it's cycle only????"

Well that wasn't what the mother with a pram thought, she insisted in walking right in the middle of the path. Did think of taking a photo, but then decided not.

    Right...

So they ignored Gembo's chain idea!

The owner of the blue Citreon is going to have to drive in from the other end now ;-)

THIS http://www.flickr.com/photos/semi-detached/318072857 is the sort of chain you want.

It's really much better now, although I agree it's a bit odd that they've painted 95% of the walkway for bikes - Friends of the Meadows will be up in arms!

I still don't understand why they didn't put half as many bollards in higher up, and keep the garden and paths the way they were. Isn't there anything better to spend money on than that? (red paint for the adjacent lanes on Melville Drive, say?)

    Better!

It is mortally embarrassing that it can take so many attempts though. Half the problem is that they try to segregate it at all though, when in practice you will often (always?) have to use the full width anyway:

I wrote to the council roads and cycling dept and all the local councillors when they put the bollards in the wrong place. The letter back said that the track was moved to allow the bin lorries to get their grab arm in play to pick up the bins. It also said a 20% turn was acceptable to cyclists. I was not convinced, and sent back a picture of the bollards - a couple of days later they were moved. I must say it was the Conservative councillor who managed to get the response, although the lib dem and the green one also wrote back.
It is clear that the designer had no idea, and probably the workmen made a mistake too.

Looks like the council have decided to waste some money obliterating half of the path. No doubt thanks to some concerned locals. Compare the "new" paint job with the one above:

Some better news here (possibly part of the same "improvement"):
