I want a good ringing bell (not a ding ding) for POP28. TBC bells seem permanently not in stock. Do any of the shops nearer to me do a good bell that anyone would recommend? I also need to replace my mirror, if I can do both at once, i'll be very happy. TBW stocks the mirror I need, but probably not the bell.

EBC used to do a copper bell that made an almighty DONG. Ring-ringers with the little thumb lever you don't see anymore which is a pity

If you're stuck I'll donate the one on my older Raleigh for the day. It's your thumb-lever cheery loud chap.

Something brass should have lovely resonance. The brass Portland Design one I have on the singlespeed (seems same as this on fleabay is glorious. Although not sure you're looking to spend that much. I have also noticed that it functions fine in the wet, unlike the little "ping ping" bells most bikes are supplied with that refuse to vibrate in the damp.

well, tbc had quite nice ones cheaper, and I'm a bit worried about theft, but this would look very handsome on the helios.

I swear by Widek steel crown bells. Inexpensive, yet sturdy, with a traditional "ching-ching" as in days of yore, a bobby's bike might have made such a sound while passing the red post box on the village green.

    Also available via fleaBay.

Got mine from tbc. They are on sale by the window in the shop. Want me to have a look tomorrow?

You could mount the gong from the Rank film intro's to your bars and beat it until you're blue in the face and still, as you come to a halt behind them, people would only know you were there from your brake squeal.

I thought Rank's gong had been exposed as a fake?

kaputnik: "I thought Rank's gong had been exposed as a fake?"

Google says it was papier-mâché. Fat lot of good that would do me.

  17. I'm going to dig out my beautiful (but impractical) Sogreni bell. And if (huge if) I get the Sunbeam running (it's on the workstand...) then there will be a ruddy great big horn on the front.

Thanks for tip crowriver. 2 widek bells now ready to be installed. Nice tone indeed and not too flash-looking.

    Aaah - noisy gadgets :o)

My bike on the day will have it's Air-Zound fully charged.

I could transfer a second Air-Zound from another bike for anyone else setting off from Harrison Park who has a free bottle-cage. The fitting is for handlebars of about 25mm max - if your bars are larger than that, you'd need a couple of zip-ties to secure it.

@SRD, you're welcome. I've tried a few bells but keep coming back to these. The sound just says 'bicycle' in such a classic way...

Pans me to say it but when I was in Hal***ds helping the Mrs order her cycle-to-work-scheme purchase they had a pretty decent range of bells of different shapes, sizes and dings.

Like the look of those widek's though, may procure one for my current doer-upper
