I had great fun stopping people along the prom at Porty on my home. Handed out postcards & flyers and flyered handlebars. Large mix of people, roadie types, commuters, mums & toddlers, locals etc - very positive response. About 50:50 re aware/unaware, with several new to the idea saying they'd come along!
Spoke to a nice couple of chaps from Fire Service. They said that they had a large number of keen cyclists amongst their colleagues, took postcards and a poster, and suggested somebody contact their 'Corporate comms' on 0131 228 2401 who could put it on their intranet - a step too far?

@Excitableboy - I dont think thats a step too far.
@threefromleith tried to do same in our place today, sadly our keeper of the corporate responsibility intranet is off.......so we can all club seals with impunity this week.

a nice surprise when I got home was one of the A5 mini-posters on inside of my stair door. I hope I've got a neighbour who's joined the cause :)
@excitableboy I will pass details of above on to the team

I put handlebar flyers on every bike I saw on my way home tonight from the top of Leith all the way to Dalry. Did the bike rack at Haymarket Station and stopped a few cyclists on the way past as well. Been getting a great response from anyone I've stopped with most saying they will attend and spread the word amongst their friends.

@K cheers
Think I may need to revise my 8128 guesstimate, but I'll wait on an 'accurate' weather forecast

That's fab Puzzle - thanks! I've been handlebar flyering bikes at that Sainsbury's and that side of George square a few every day, but always in a rush, so not consistently. The bikes at Sainsbury's change every day, so actually good, because reaching a range of people.

Stopped to leaflet a woman this morning nr home, who said she knew all about it and that it was really well advertised at her work! (informatics - good work cc and lionfish!)

I've just flyered the Informatics & Dugald Stewart bike store by Bristo Square. Did 80 or so bikes and ran out shortly before getting them all - I hadn't realised there were so many bikes there.

I got laminated posters up at a few more bits of Meadows, top of MMW, cut-through from MMW to George Square, top of Leamington Walk, Bruntsfield, beside Leamington Lift bridge (not on), new entrance into Harrison Park, the bottleneck before Slateford Aqueduct, the start of the Balerno railway path, WoL walkway toucan crossing on Gorgie Road and Corstorphine path where it turns under the bridge after Pinkhill. I was coming home via Russell Road, Roseburn Park, Telfer Subway and west end of Meadows but I had run out of cable ties as I had to keep doubling them up for wrapping around fat poles.
Try get a few more done tomorrow on way to work but at this rate I won't be up in time for any more than my usual running-slightly-late dash across town.

"I've just flyered the Informatics & Dugald Stewart bike store by Bristo Square."
I misread that as the "Duglas Stewart bike store" and for a moment thought the students had named it after the mighty BMX Bandits band leader (appropriately enough). :-D

kaputnik - I saw the one on the post heading onto GS from MMW, and last night on the cycle path from Leith. They're everywhere! I didn't laminate mine, so several of the ones I put up on Tuesday have disintegrated.
I was a bit annoyed that all the ones I put along the canal disappeared. I don't think it was just the rain as there was no sign of any of them :/

Lots of new posters along brunstfield & meadows - great stuff! I did a bit of chalking on the links, but don't think it will last long...
Posted 13 years ago # -
My Innocent chalkings didn't last long. I think the combined effect of loads of wet tyres running over them yesterday did the trick. Still, hopefully some people saw it at least. If I actually remember the chalk I'll do it again tomrrow.
Posted 13 years ago # -
I'll try and get out to Cramond/Silverknowes this evening, possibly with chalk, though if it's not windy I could take a brush and form words out of all the shell-fragments. There's a big clutch of bikes near the office which I'll try and get at lunchtime.

I did Towerbank school this morning. Gave away maybe 60 leaflets to parents. Quite a few seemed to know about it already. Then the nice lovely school said they'd put the rest of them (120ish) in the kids' bags to take home tonight.

Glad my late-night / early-morning efforts have been noticed. I tried to put them where I thought cyclists would be slowing and be likely to see them and perhaps even slow to read. Also point them in the direction from which they'd be most legible.
I didn't do much on the canal as I assumed British Waterways jobsworth would come and take them down, so I tried to keep them discrete and a bit away from the busier section near Leamington. Whole reason I went out really late was to get at least the Thursday morning commuters before they were at risk of being removed.
I intend to go back around on, say, Sunday and remove any still left.
I've got 3 laminated posters left, going to stick 2 on my pannier rack. Any suggestions for the final one?
That makes about 22 that have gone up.

LIKE! Thanks HG!!

Bit more last gasp handlebar flyering around Dundee Uni today. Was approached by the owner of a rather nice gloss black Cinelli framed fixie who wanted to know more about POP. He hadn't heard about it, I explained and encouraged him to visit the site, sign the petition.
Still plenty of cyclists out there who have never heard of Pedal On Parliament. Work still to be done!

College of Art is now all flyered up. Both of the lads I spoke to as they were unlocking already knew about it - one is a rickshaw rider as it happens. It took all my willpower not to commit a public indecency in that ocean of lovely vintage bikes. Downtube shifters, battle scarred Dutch and sleekit 531 fixie homebrews as far as the eye can see. If it hadn't been for the weather providing a literal cold shower I expect I'd be in a cell right now.
Also did the bike racks at Craiglockhart Primary and Napier Craiglockhart campus, although there was the grand total of one bike at the latter.
Posted 13 years ago # -
Yay thanks Uberuce, I was debating the ride up to Craiglockhart but you've saved me the trip. In regards to there being just one bike...a similar thing happens at Craighouse when the weather is pants...
Posted 13 years ago # -
Argh. I forgot all about the existence of the other Craig, and got them mixed up anyway. Which is almost mathematically impressive. I'll buzz up to Craiglockhart this morning.
Posted 13 years ago # -
oh boy! went out and did North side of Geroge square and then up to Bristo square. ran out of flyers, even though someone had been there before me. Only to dsicover none of the south side/libbrary had been done at all - of there now as soon as I've finished cutting them up (the flyers that is, not the cyclists)

Are we going to Critical Mass this evening to recruit them (and maybe just maybe get them to average 10mph)?
Posted 13 years ago # -
I was wondering how to check if they were on today as I should be free to swing past the start-point if it's at the usual start-time.
Posted 13 years ago # -
According to FB, critical mass aware of POP and the organiser intends coming along and has encouraged others to do likewise.
It's POP committee meeting tonight so won't be able to make it for some last-minute flyering.

@wingpig - I think you can saefly assume they are on 5:30 at the mound for a 6pm ride
