No video yet, but both STV and BBC have PoP stories up.

Both of them talk of "hundreds" of cyclists. We now know that "thousands" would have been more accurate, so I assume that these stories were written before the event. I hope they'll be corrected.

Yes, we reckon they were written beforehand. I also hope they correct them soon. The STV news didn't have anything on when we saw it but there was a short section on the BBC.

"We all share the desire to get more people cycling in Scotland, but it has to backed up with word as well as deed. "

police were saying 2500, which probably means 3000, especially if you count the weans (who DO count!)

    I'd say at least 3,000.

Whilst stopped at the lights off George IV Bridge to turn onto the High Street (we were very well behaved not the usual RLJing :-P) on looking back the whole of the Bridge, up Forrest Road and the top of the Meadows was awash with cyclists, albeit also on the left hand side of the road only...we were very orderly!!

Fantastic turnout and well done everybody, the organisers and those that attended. Just brilliant.

Oo oo oo I meant to say that a very large number of cyclists had already gone through one change of lights and were probably at the lights at the junction of the High Street and N/S Bridge. Someone was getting very frustrated at the lights and lots of horn...damned cyclists, just getting the in the way again, blocking up the traffic causing a traffic jam no less...don't think they saw the irony.

LOL, thanks for spotting that Min. Always thought words spoke louder than actions for some politicians!

There was coverage on BBC Scotland's early evening news, but nowt on STV which preferred to trail some would-be blockbuster cgi-fest fantasy movie as a news item instead...

That aside, a great turnout, couldn't hear much of the public address at Holyrood but by that time I think the point had been made by the sheer number of attendees alone..

Sky News just did a feature on London's 'Overground' ride. They said 10,000 cyclists attended. It seemed a bit happy to play on the cyclists vs. everyone else argument though. There was a 'meanwhile, north of the border' segment of about ten seconds, but we had the better weather! Pretty sure chdot is in the clip.

Sky News hates dissent. They are more than happy to misrepresent protesters, well unless they toe the party line and are protesting against something Sky News approved I suppose.

Thing is that the event wasn't 'monetized' which means it was a bad thing from media point of view.

If it had been a Skyride than that would have been much better( !)

Basically this was cheap 'entertainment' without commercial backing so not to be encouraged... ;-)

Well done everyone! Irene and I loved it!

13,000 riders voters out on the streets of London and Edinburgh and still nothing on Beeb or STV news that I've seen >:-<

Anyone got email addresses with which we may point out their ommissions? ;-)

I am not at all surprised by this. After all, the Scottish media had a Rangers demo to cover: obviously much more important (not). Also, we've had our coverage, before the demo. That's our lot.

The London media seem more interested in the fractures and fissures in the Westminster coalition, and attendent noise.

It's called the status quo. Anything that doesn't fit the agendas that the media already subscribe to is largely ignored*. "Bunch of cyclists on a demo? How is that news? Who cares?" Ad nauseam...

*The Times is a notable exception, but only because it has taken the cycling safety agenda on. Note that the Guardian/Observer, normally pro-cyclist, has not covered the demos, except for a pre-demo blog post by London Cycling Campaign.
