Ahem. I think you'll find the correct perjorative is "Niddrie Naesocks"
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 16years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

Niddronian?
chdot - that's your second good prediction this week!
Gordon Mackenzie's out too then. Pity. maybe we'll see him around here more now :)
Steady on Mystic ChDot...won't be red/green coalition not enough of a majority, need 30 seats for a majority.
Maybe they'll not bother attempting to form a majority coalition and just vote for stuff on merit without recourse to party affiliation dogmata.
"Steady on Mystic ChDot...won't be red/green coalition not enough of a majority, need 30 seats for a majority."
That was SRD.
BUT it's a strong option.
Would mean a Green person in charge of some committees - Transport???
Andrew Burns has been talking about 'a co-operative council' for a while.
20 Lab + 6 Green + 1 SNP + 1 Con + 1 LD = 29...
One version of democracy would be Lab + SNP.
But I can't see that happening.
Everyone other than Lab doesn't seem likely.
SNP + Tory would be interesting - not sure either party (or at least the real people in them) could pull that off.
Interesting weekend for those and those.

Or perhaps Lab/Green/LibDem with Lab having Lord Provost casting vote #voteedin12

A dejected Steve Cardownie, leader of SNP group on #Edincouncil, admits Labour are now in "driving seat" to run the capital.

Labour group leader Andrew Burns declares "we have won the election" but says he is open to talks with all other parties about a coalition.

yes a nationalist-unionist coalition seems a bit odd.
That is a pity about Gordon Mackenzie. I think voters punished him for the trams and the Lib Dems in general for the Westminster coalition.
As the biggest party, Labour have the right to start coalition negotiations. Lab/Green/Lib would be good, but will the Lib Dems play ball?
Lab/SNP unlikely given Cardownie's history, but you never know.
Unlikely anyone will want to work with the Tories.
Possible Labour minority administration, with ad hoc arrangements with other parties for support?
"Possible Labour minority administration, with ad hoc arrangements with other parties for support?"
Yes.
Partly depends how ambitious the Greens are - genuine chance for political involvement/responsibility.
Partly depends how much Labour Party (as opposed to some senior councillors) is willing to share power/co-operate with other parties.
Partly depends on experienced individuals in other parties being offered/willing to take (for instance) committee chairs.
It's all about politics.
Whatever happens I think it will be good for walking/cycling.
BUT there will not suddenly be extra money, or magical new ways of doing things that will make many dramatic differences.
Expect real trouble next year with class sizes and school buildings.
Expect more tram related woes.
It's such a disappontment to have lost Cllr Mackenzie.
@chdot, as the Lib Dems have demonstrated, going into coalition can be a risky business. I have a feeling they may prefer to stay out and lick their wounds, as they did in 2007 after the SNP emerged as the biggest party at Holyrood.
I'm sure the Green party will have a good think and a discussion with the branch members before entering into any negotiations with Labour. It's good to know what you want out of any deal before entering into negotiations.
I'd agree with most of that - though I got the impression that Greens were asking for too much, so didn't get a deal(?)
It's ALL on Beeb2 now!
I hope some of the folk who have been barraging the long suffering (former Cllr) Gordom Mackenzie with campaign e-mails will have the heart to send commiserations on his defeat.
A good transport convener lost in a whirlwind of vengeance from the voters.
When he first took over there was no chance he could be less cycle friendly than his immediate predecessor.
Initially it seemed he was just another politician regarding 'cyclists' as a 'lobby group' that had to be listened to - but maybe just 'balanced' with other 'special interests'.
But the last year or so has shown that he actually understands the benefits of improving things for walking and cycling.
The South Central 20mph zone wouldn't have happened without him.
Presume CEC email won't get to him anymore -
For the stattos and election nerds amongst us, you can find the election results here, with % vote share for each candidate, first preferences, etc.
Magnanimous in victory... I can appreciate that. Maybe I need to send Cameron an email as well as Gordon!
