Thinking of maybe doing this this year? Probably the long run with K. on tandem and baby in seat or the family ride w/her on her own bike?

    Any advice?

Nope sorry I have'nae done this ride yet.

I'm getting together a merry band of colleagues at work. We're raising money for a local cancer charity and the 'heads of sheds' are ok'ing corporate sponsorship and company logo'd cycling kit!

    WooW!

Family ride is just a pootle round glasgow green, you could do the normal ride on tandem - lots do it out of condition and on tesco mtbs, so anything goes really. You wont be the slowest.

i gather there's a plan for an edinburgh family ride - 9 miles. would be fine. but the longer one might be more fun, and nice to have some back-up etc for our first longish ride.

Pedal for Scotland was my first long ride last year. Great family event and very friendly. There's stops every 10 miles for fuelling (Think there was one you had to pay - very cheap and mountain of cake mmm cake!)

SRD, you'd do the fifty with no problem. There's one decent hill but I can do it on a big gear single speed so really, it's a dawdle.

Can't see any details for the Kirkliston - Edinburgh Family ride this year on their website...(googol just finds links to last years' family event.)

Have e-mailed to check but don't have much hope.

Don't think my kids would be up for whole event (this year anyway)

Nothing to stop a ride on the last bit of the route anyway as the signs are up for the road closure (from Kirkliston to the A90, Eastbound only) to start at 9am, but I guess won't be able to make a grand entrance to the stadium as we won't have a event number on and won't have safety in numbers from those that 'race' the 'it is not a race' event on the narrow sections.
