I'm quite disappointed in this.however it does seem most cars are going or want to go faster than me, when I'm driving!
so much for not being able to afford fuel!
A rise in drink driving figures is disgusting.

Absolutely, we should start importing the Aussie shock adds wholesale. It's too easy to say "we can't we might upset people" and then let the killings and maimings go on out of sight of the majority.
FFS we're losing more people on the roads of L&B than in a fighting war in Afghanistan, yet people continue to pretend it's not really that bad and excuse impatient dangerous driving.
Overdue time we took it seriously, because at the moment when I look at the adverts, court reports, enforcement etc, we are merely playing at road safety :-<

Realistically speeding in residential areas has probably always gone on but now with the introduction of the 20 mph zones the polis now have something to book you for, prior to that it would have been 30 mph. The road leading into the NRIE has actually got 10 mph limit signs up and I have cars every day passing me and theoretically I am speeding too as a vehicle doing about 15 mph so what speed are they doing, well obviously faster than me. This does not seem to be enforced. The signs have only gone up in the last few months and road users ignore them constantly. Also many supermarket car parks have 10 mph signs on the road surfaces, this is regularly, constantly flouted.

I have heard it said by someone who should know, that the "traffic" signs in supermarket car parks are unofficial and therefore unenforceable.

Speaking from a non-legal background, my own understanding is that a speed limit must be designated for a road, but that generic road traffic laws now apply wherever motor vehicles may be used. Happy to be corrected by an expert though if I'm talking rot!
