It's official....

CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 16years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.
That photo they've used looks more like a local CTC outing than your average "I'll try cycling for fitness" person. Note the Ribble winter training frame.
Niot keen on the tone of the article at the end:
"But even though health is one of the big draws of cycling, a dismal number of regular cyclists pre-empt potential brain damage by wearing a helmet. Only 23 per cent of male cyclists admitted regularly donning a helmet, while even fewer women, just 15 per cent, said they did.
There’s no sign of helmets being made mandatory by law just yet, which might be good news as 24 per cent of those polled admitted having to wear one would put them off their new favourite hobby. Vain, us?"
No, just unconvinced of the benefits of polystyrene hats.
British men are more likely than women to take to two wheels, but in the nation as a whole, over a third of us cycle, according to research by market research company Mintel. One in four men and just over a quarter of women call themselves cyclists.
British men are more likely than women to cycle but more women are cyclists?
Still, good news that cycling is still gaining in popularity. The politicians are really going to have to start listening at some point. I mean really.
Alas the politicians are too busy listening to various 'drivetime' radio shows in their cars to take notice of cyclists. 'We' need to become a much more substantial minority before they'll take cycling seriously.
"One in four men and just over a quarter of women call themselves cyclists."
Last I looked, a quarter was 1 in 4. A quarter and just over a quarter is, in market research terms, the same thing.
I think the article does identify that modern lifestyles like to have a variety of exercise options. These stats though don't talk about type of cycling - as far as I can see on my mobile.
I hear bike rack sales for cars are growing too. POP is doing great job encouraging cycling as everyday event and not something we drive to. Reminds me a bit of skiing stats - many Scots ski but once a year flying to the Alps. Prices for bikes and cycling are much cheaper than this so no surprise people buy bikes ...?
Yahoo news is not known for it's gravitas and is often not well written. I thought it was interesting that it had even taken any notice of information on cycling and even considered it being "newsworthy" to report it.
