I know this isn't cycling related, but I'm begging your indulgence.

My bathroom is rotting away thanks to a huge leak from the flat upstairs. The whole bathroom has to come out, be dried out, rebuilt and put back together. It's been going on for months, because my insurance company are a nightmare.

Anyway, we're nearly agreeing on a settlement and I need to start getting somewhere else to live. My current flat is in the southside and I wouldn't like to be too far away, as here is convenient, but at this stage I'm begging and therefore can't choose.

Trouble is, I don't know how long I need to move out for. Until my bathroom is out, we don't know how much needs to be done or how long it will take. It might be as little as 3 weeks, it might be 2 or 3 months. So ideally I'm looking to take somewhere for 3 weeks then renew week by week if required. Doesn't have to be fancy, or even nice, just has to have no hole in the ceiling and a floor you can walk on without falling through. I'm hoping that my contractors will be able to start within the next couple of weeks, but that's negotiable and will depend on me having somewhere to go.

I can provide references and a deposit but owing to difficulties reaching a settlement with the scummy insurance company, can't pay an awful lot - £500pcm would be about the max. I'm a cooncil worker, have my own flat to return to, am reliable, honest, a cyclist and anth can vouch for my integrity as a human being. And he's a lawyer!

Can you help? If you can, or you know someone who can, please let me know, either here or via kirsten underscore ot at hotmail dot com. Thank you.

I could kill this thread for obvious reason.

But I think it's a healthy sign that Kirst thinks that there may be people on here willing/able to help with her emergency.

I just remind you that this forum has Private Messaging where any member can send a message to any other.

Obviously I don't see any of this activity. If anyone receives a message they regard as 'abuse' please let me know.

@Kirst there is a two bed flat up stairs from me to let, it has been empty for over 3 months, the agents might be willing to do a deal if they are getting desperate?

@recombodna I have a tap which needs fixing, can you do that?

Or possibly try a co-op, they might be a bit more flexible than a private landlord. I think there are a few in Edinburgh but Uncle Google will help. Good luck!
