A shorter ride

For anyone who doesn't fancy 'putting in the miles', but likes a bit of a challenge -

I have a 15 mile ride starting in Morningside and never going more than three miles away before returning about 3 hours later.

Quite a lot off-road, visiting various bits of water, a few steps and two short steep bits where most people will need to push.

Not really suitable for skinny-tyred racers (or funny bikes - narrow bits and tight gates), but won't need full-on MTBs.

Any takers for a guided tour?

Likely to be Sat/Sun (sometime) 10ish, back for lunch.

I'd be on for this, given availablity. May even persuade my lady wife. We would be on long-neglected MTBs

    Seems to be some interest.

I'd prefer a Saturday, not this week.

There is a different route on a similar theme that could be done after lunch, though there is a farm track I haven't ridden for a while so I'll have to check it's not too unfun to ride.

If wee blue floofy isn't in dry dock, then I'm in.

  9. Can probably count me in (though not this weekend as it's a household birthday weekend, nor the weekend after as I'll be samplying some Spanish delights!).

Ah, sorry, thought it was for the 2nd - I'm otherwise engaged on the 16th.

    Apologies,

Possibly. Parents probably up visiting but it could be an opportunity to finally get them out on bikes up here.

"could be an opportunity to finally get them out on bikes up here"

Certain level of stamina required - involves hills.

The 16th is the Lepra Edinburgh St Andrews ride but your event sounds a lot more interesting. I'll have to check with other household members first though.

"The 16th is the Lepra Edinburgh St Andrews ride"

Hadn't realised - not that I was planning to do it. Makes a nice alternative option!

"but your event sounds a lot more interesting"

Well everyone has their own idea of "interesting", but I'm not going to disagree.

Of course I'm 'expecting' a day like today. Pouring rain would be less fun.

If fine and warmish could have (optional) picnic in a nearby secret garden.

Unlike the E-SA ride there will not be an icecream van at highest point.

Saturday I've mentally pencilled in a trip to Glasgow as weather looked less wet through there.

That's a pity, I still had this pencilled in but I think I will plan something with the instead. Maybe another time?

"I'll go if you can fix the weather :)"

    So will I!

    Unfortunately...

I've got a ride planned with a school tomorrow morning and weather not looking great for going up Balerno Path.

Weather forecasts have been fairly unreliable lately, but satellite pix show a lot of rain clouds coming from Atlantic

    Wind too apparently.

I know it looks like it will never be nIce and sunny again.

Proposing this for next Sat - last day of the first summer month (or something).
