More tickets for road cycling events at the London Olympics are going on sale later, organiser Locog has said.

Tickets will be available from 11:00 BST for Box Hill in Surrey - where the road races can be viewed - and Hampton Court Palace, for the time trials.

Tickets, priced from £5 to £15, will be available on a first come, first served basis until they are sold out.

"You need tickets to view road cycling??"

It's the London (and Home Counties) Olympics.

'Ticket price includes asmuchasyoucandrink sponsoredbeverage and a personal assistant waving a cooling fan.'

They've decided to break with Olympics tradition and convention and ticket the Box Hill section of the race. Causing much controversy in the process!

As CHdot says it's probably to discourage the cycling riff raff in their lycra, with their sandals and beards and cardigans knitted from mueslin from upsetting the ladies in fascinators and gents in boating jackets into spilling their gin or choking on their cucumber sandwiches.

You can always view the race at any other point on the route the "proper" way, i.e. standing at the side of the road for free.

    Forgot to add -

'There will be no cycle parking at the venue.'

That is not at all clear from the article! It looks like you need to buy tickets if you want to see any cycling. I was wondering if they were just going to ride round and round and round Box Hill.

Might just take a wing round by Box Hill then, on my way to Biggin Hill; drop a few cogs on the blighters from on high whilst raking the Home Counties with half inch rounds from the Brownings! Reminds me, must get more toilet paper for cleaning the Brooks! The Home Counties Olympics are sucking the life out of me and my cycling grants, and I feel I might 'candle' at any time! Chocks away, Biggles flies undone!

They are going round and round Box Hill about 8 times. Good place to view from with hairpins etc and brand spanking new Tarmac, 'twas a joy to cycle up the other week. looking at the OS map again might be possible to walk through the woods from Mickleham and observe from there. If security is tight then the cost of policing it will exceed ticket sales. There is some talk of protestors disrupting the cycling like they did at the boat race, I think the former is very wrong thing to do but presumably easiest thing to disrupt? Not sure the fairly laid back south west Londoners have grasped their roads are going to be shut for up to three days
