"Saughton Skatepark will open as of Saturday 24th April.

The Edinburgh Council official opening day event is on Saturday 8th of May. Make your way along to that as there will be skate and BMX demos from local pro riders, The Clan Cycle Stunt Team doing their thing and Skateboard Scotland in attendance to run the opening day event."

Rode past mid morning not long after the opening - proof that sometimes the council can do clever things.

I'd love to have shot round that on my blades. Do they have an old persons night? Not too late of course as we need our sleep.

There were a few bladers today.

No need - no age descrimination, no closing time. Try before work one day.

Just a short one to let you know that the official opening of Saughton Skatepark will take place 1.00 - 4.00pm on the 8 May 2010. http://www.edinburghskatepark.org.uk/index.htm and http://www.skateboardscotland.com/  and

There will be demonstrations of skateboarding and BMX riding, a Unicyclist together with a Mountain Bike Display Team http://www.mb7.com/TheClan/. It has now been confirmed that Danny Macaskill will be riding so we are expecting, weather permitting, anywhere between 1500 - 2000 visitors on the day. Skateboard Scotland will provide a soundscape,  DJ and compere the event.

Councillor Deidre Brock, Convenor, Culture and Leisure Committee, will cut the ribbon around 1.15 - 1.30pm.

  9. I took a spin by this morning. Okay, so a fixed wheel road bike 'aint the best idea in a skatepark, but hey, it was fun and I only managed a couple of pedal strikes.

    Gullane Bowl Opening

That's right, Gullane in East Lothian is getting it's own bowl. The official opening is going to be on the 27th of November. More details to follow on what is being organised. So keep our eyes peeled on the site for further updates.

Deputation at today's transport committee from Tynecastle pupil.

Wants changes to signs to add scooters as users, because 'being hassled by people on skateboards/BMX'.

Also called for lighting on path to Fords Road 'could be crime hot spot'.

(School has asked for these as part of consultation process.)

Man from department says signs will changed "within a month".

Lighting part of proposals to Heritage Lottery Fund.

'Keen to generate electricity for upgraded Winter Gardens from micro-generator on WoL'.

This is one topic where I generally divert from the common skateboard consensus. There is a worrying animosity to scooter usage in skateparks and even some bans. I think the new Inverness skatepark has a ban on scooters. Citing over abuse of the structure of the skatepark, lack of skatepark awareness and the very young kids unsupervised in the skatepark as reasons to employ the ban.

I personally think it's great that they get multi discipline usage and anything that encourages kids in fun self dependant exercise is brilliant.

    Yes.

ARE allowed at Saughton and signs will say so soon.

    Allowed at Transgression Park too.

Some of the kids/tricks/skills are amazing!
