Spotted this in an EEN story "Edinburgh is known for its liberal approach to prostitution, including the licensing of saunas and massage parlours." which I thought was rather amusing/ironic given that Edinburgh has also not allowed naked bike riding (although I am told Glasgow has one planned). Not that I *want* to ride my bike naked, but I find the attitudes annoyingly inconsistent.

The phrase "out of sight, out of mind" seems appropriate. Not sure that Edinburgh tolerates public display of 'lewd' behaviour or 'loose morals'. Not bothered about what goes on behind closed doors away from the street, though...

Well the WNBR happened in Edinburgh in 2010 and 2011 in the meadows.

Fairly sure it was reported on here as well.

Don't think it was allowed to be naked though.

That said, I'm not really getting the link here...

@cb link: that they're prudish about bare skin, but not about (paid for) sex. Seems to be the wrong way around as far I'm concerned.

But the reasons for being a prostitute and the reasons for attending a naked bike ride are very different.

I doubt prudish sensitivities are considered that highly with regards to prostitution compared with other considerations.

Or, the reasons for buying sex and the reasons for attending a naked bike ride are very different.

But, I'm talking not about the punters/riders/prostitutes, but about the city's attitude to policy, legislation and enforcement.

@SRD - In my own area, I am more comfortable that the massage parlour is in Argyle Place rather than having kerb crawlers cruising the area.

That said, I dont disagree that the MNBR is hardly a danger to society !!

I don't know what WNBR stands for and initially though Kaputnik was posting about some West Northern British Rail body..

I ride Naked all the time (under my cycle cothing), but I do recall some elected member (sad use of the word - no pun intended) being pulled (ditto) near leith ~8 years ago when locals organised a local residents protest when they stood on street corners taking registrations of vehicles as they drove round the area, and reporting those they saw doing circuits of the area. This was before the extension of the Parking Zones, though having lived in Permit parking zones in the past, doing cuitcuits of the local area was an unavoidable past time looking, when looking for a parking place of an evening.

Attitudes to public nakedness are fairly draconian in Scotland. Oh and it's illegal.* That ex-military chap "the naked rambler" has spent a lot of time in prison in Scotland for refusing to put his clothes on. The police just arrest him every time he gets out, still in the buff. He's been done for contempt too I think. Maybe he's still inside?

All very odd. I blame the Presbyterian church myself. (Controversial hat still on).

    * - So are various motoring behaviours but then, everybody does it.

  11. Naked bike riding in the middle of the day in deliberately public and visible places with hundreds of people getting their bits out;

Saunas and massage parlours only really know if you do know they're there, prostitution usually late evenings in more 'secluded' areas of town.

I suspect the prositution would be clamped down on more if the 'sellers' were to be wandering around naked, or the sauna owners posted a naked lady to stand outside.

Not sure it's the forum for discussing prostitution, but as above I'm more of the "it will never stop, I'd rather it was regulated and therefore possibly 'safer' (as safe as possible anyway) that way". Please note, I'm not saying I agree with prostitution.
