More here -
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 16years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.
[irony]Oh good, I can hardly wait![/irony]

This should be treated as a good opportunity for both riders and bus / taxi drivers to get used to what it will be like when the trams are running. Looked at it like that, it seems like quite a sensible idea really.
Perhaps they should just cone off the whole of the tram lane along Princes st, for full accuracy?
not
going
there
ever
Yikes. It's primary position all the way along Princes Street then.
No wonder they didn't mark any cycle lanes in!
But there's absolutely no overtaking room, so one may as well adopt the middle of the lane and proceed at a comfortable pace.
I suppose it's good practice; I don't think the frequency of trams will lead to constant single-laning by itself, but the potential speed of the trams might discourage any riding near to or between the rails, as I did frequently in Toronto.
Yeah, if you look on the bright side there's hardly any chance of an inappropriate overtake because there's barely room for the buses themselves!
I think Leith Walk will be worse for this, because all traffic is going to be in one lane heading uphill into town, and even the most angelic motorist isn't going to wait behind at 5-10mph for ten minutes...
What happens when something like this happens?
Translation Kim? I'm afraid that's beyond my language skills, other than the pics giving away that someone got hit :-(
Apparently -
"Operasjonsleder Heidi Grundstad against Oslo politidistrikt disclose at Evening post that a r aged woman has been pkjrt by an tramcar against Forskningsparken p Blind in Oslo. She sit fastklemt under tramcar , disclose Grundstad. Police getting bid about the accident bell 07.57 Tuesday morning. The wool universitetssykehus disclose that the woman has pdratt her breach in head , and injuries betoken as earnest. The woman am steady , but stayed in 11- the time today under intensivbehandling."
Other translations are available - probably.
"Heidi Grundstad, operations manager of the Oslo police, speaking to Aftenposten, said that a 58 year old woman had been hit by a tram at the Science Park at Blindern in Oslo.
'She was trapped under the tram', said Grundstad.
The police were notified about the accident at 07.57 on Tuesday morning. Crews from the fire department jacked up the tram car and rescued the woman.
'The woman had been riding her bicycle, and ended up under the tram. She is now freed and has been taken to Oslo University Hospital', police officer Rolf Johannessen told Aftenposten at 08.40.
It was reported from the scene that the woman was unconscious when she was taken to hospital.
Oslo University Hospital said the woman sustained a fracture in her skull and her injuries were described as serious. Her condition is stable, but she will remain in intensive care for 11 days."
Let's hope she recovers well.
Aye I hope so. But I guess it won't be long until someone is pkjrt by an tramcar here. :-( In the meantime we can just be grateful how many years behind schedule it is so far.
The worry for me would be that tram drivers won't pay much attention to what's in front (especially on Princes St where there's no general car traffic). After all they are on rails!
"pkjrt by an tramcar"
That's great. Must go down in history. Except I hope we never need to use it.
Dave: "Yeah, if you look on the bright side there's hardly any chance of an inappropriate overtake because there's barely room for the buses themselves!"
Yes, and even worse, if a cyclist stops the bus has to stop too as there's no room for it to pass; at least not giving the cyclist the required 6' clearance.
"if a cyclist stops the bus has to stop too as there's no room for it to pass"
Well not really an issue here as we are talking about a (static) tram length - where cyclists are not likely to want to stop.
IF trams run, it will be interesting to see how much buses regard it as normal to drive along the tram section (especially in Princes Street).
I assume the trams will be limited to 20mph on Princes Street - though I am not aware if it has been finalised.
Trams would be so infrequent that buses wouldn't have to worry too much about being in the way.
Not moving soon then -

I like "intensivbehandling"!
Next it will be a Festival venue...
That would be cool!!
they could show the multiple tram videos on the wee screens where you normally watch the CCTV footage of neds cutting up the back seats and rolling joints
actually I think the cooncil could rake in some cash if they put a new parking ticket on it every hour every day...
Another explanation...
