OH HAPPY Haringey, the hard-up Labour-run London borough which has found £290,000 down the back of the sofa just in time to resurface a short stretch of road which will be used for the Olympic Torch relay on 25 July.
The torch will be borne along the 400 yards of Alexandra Palace Way from the park gates to Ally Pally upon a smooth new surface. Never mind the potholed roads elsewhere, or the cuts in services for oldies and the borough's disaffected, riot-prone yoof: £725 a yard is a small price to pay for a few minutes of Olympic Stardust!"
