I wonder if he came off at the same bit as me?

I came off just over the wee bridge at Cramond Brig on the bend where the surface is quite poor. As I was lying on the ground I wondered, hmm how did I manage to find the only bit of ice on that corner? On further inspection it was actually a thick patch of diesel/oil right on the corner.

My bike is in the bike hospital too, bent brake lever and pannier/mudgaurd bolt sheared off. I have cuts and bruises and a staved pinky, but they will heal for free. The most annoying casualty is my Gore tex jacket which now sports two small holes on the shoulder :( Is there any way to patch that up?

Shucks, did you come off today? Have you pinpointed where the diesel/oil spill is? Perhaps @team_north could sand it? and clean it up?

As for the jacket, there is a place in Mussleburgh which can fix the gortex but it depends on how much you want to pay for it. You can also get tent style patches which you glue on.

I'll try and find the place in Mussleburgh for you.

Hope you are not too bruised and shaken, and cheers for the tip.

EDIT Tweeted to @team_north to sand and clean if possible. Pls also tweet them to provide weight to our enquiry.

    @Baldcyclist

I think the repair place was recommended here:

I spotted a dad in currie last night on the pavement with two kids behind on helios style tandem AND a trailer. They stopped at That Shop looked like they were on a Moshi Monster hunt?

also Mr Kap on first morning of my new commute. Bit fiercer through town, also pot holes. Visibility this mornign was bad from Balerno in as rain mist combo with dark not good.

Lastnight the council had placed 'Road closed ahead signs and barrier across half of the road. Also cyclists dismount signs. I was shouted to by a regular cyclist I see about a diesel spillage on the corner. He must have seen a tweet of ours? as no mention of diesel was on the signs and no obvious smell or sand on the carrageway?? Wonder who he is now????

chdot, feel free to cut out the Cramond Brig posts into a new thread, as it may make anyone searching for Cramond cycle path easier.

Heading west along Grange Road this morning was a man on an MTB fitted with an occupied Tagalong-effect device and dragging an additional child on a scooter with his right hand, all on the footway, putting the tweedy-hat thin-red-tyred light-jumping wobblestart hipster of London Road into second place.

He may have been someone that I spoke to whilst I was licking my wounds. I was at the site for about half an hour after the fall trying (and failing) to fix my bike, so I spoke to a few cyclists, and warned many more as they were going past.

I also spoke to a bloke with grey beard (George from EBC at S. Queensferry) I pass regularly both ways on the way home who enquired after my wellbeing.

The signs appeared to be a bit of a cop out if you ask me. THe cooncil are there doing pot hole repairs for a few days, hence the Road closed signs. But the cyclist dismount signs were new, as were the huge puddles of water where they appeared to have tried to clean up the corner which is still black with something slidy.

I think they have tied to clean it, failed, so put the dismount signs up so that if you then fall off they can say "well the signs say dismount, why were you riding?" Only +ve is that the Road closed sign at the bridge side stops you going down the bit where I came off, and makes you take a wider line.

About ten minutes ago, on London Road heading west, a big blue lorry with the following emblazoned on its sides: "RALEIGH Bicycles and Acessories". I presume it had just paid a visit to Eastside bikes and on its way to McDonald Cycles?

One the way home last night. The whole corner where I came off on Monday has been resurfaced.

@Baldcyclist, maybe going up to Sandy Wallace Cycles (Inverkeithing)? Or Halfords in Dunfermline?

Spotted a chap on a bike in front of me on the way to work with one of those VERY BRIGHT Cree lights. Blimey Charlie, it was bright, as I (fortunately) followed him to Edinburgh.

Also spotted a lady on a hipster type bike (U defer to WC) which had no cross bar, and only a bent curved diagonal bar as she peddled from E Fountainbridge to Fountainbridge.

Spotted Cllr Cameron Rose today, on MMW and two wheels, checking out the east Meadows being dug up again for pipe laying and drainage. I waved hello as I cycled past, but realised I was probably just a random recumbamentalist.

He blogged about the drainage works today. I assume that was him out taking the photo for the post.

Hey Andy I spotted your new carradice on Sunday. Looks lovely. Mine is now indoors as the damp garage was encouraging mould growth on my old one.

  25. "two transitvanpolis"

    Read that initially as 'transvestitepolis'.

    Ditto.

I think it's to do with the way the brain starts by recognising words/(patterns of letters) it already knows.
