cb I think cycling down Dalry Road and then waiting for train at Haymarket. I was too shy to come and say hello and complement you on your very bright rear light.

@fimm, I looked up from my Metro and realised that I must have kind of blanked you on the platform.

I thought I had pulled out onto an empty Dalry Road. Good to know that my rear light is bright though...

@cb, I could have said hello, but you looked very engrossed in your newspaper.

I was quite a long way behind you - somewhere near the pedestrian crossing I think - when you pulled out. Certainly far enough away for me not to be anything you'd notice.

Your rear light combination works very well - the light you have on flash isn't as bright as the other, but is far enough away from it to be visible.

    "Wot gender sterotypes?"

Now that's what I call cycle chic.

*consults the rule tomes of Spottington Crescent**

I believe you get this Spot, but subsequent Spots at that location would require that a tiger** had been known to be guarding my bikes for a period of extended (but not announced) duration, prior to said Spot.

I was on the slate Genesis Croix de Fer today, usually it's the blue Genesis with the white saddle'n'grips and studly tyres.

*Joke courtesy of gembo, if I recall correctly.
**Joke courtesy of me, because I'm an egotist.

fairly large group of cyclists, at least one on a trike,on the approach to Rosyth, from the west, about 13;30,all looked like they were having fun, i was in the lorry, waved but it was a corner and most seemed concentrating on the road, quite rightly ! :)

Oh I saw a motorbike this morning with two wheels at the front. I had forgotten about it till now.

Would that not technically be a motor trike (unless there were no wheels at the back...)

Today I saw a woman on her bike at Haymarket having a hands free phone conversation - the phone was wedged under the strap of her helmet. No idea how it stayed in place.

Hehe, there was indeed a wheel at the back.

Spotted a very brightly lit cyclist waiting in the traffic heading into town on the outskirts of Morningside this evening. The frame said "Genesis" and the beard suggested Mr Uberuce, whom it indeed was when I nipped outside from the fish and chip shop to say hello.

    Ahem ahem ahem...

At the risk of letting pedantry overshadow a delightful chance encounter, I do believe the Spot goes to your dear Pater?

  16. SRD (though I only seem to grab planned spots these days - I knew I was late seeing the calling card Helios parked outside).

Really fixed, fixed! by LaidBackBikes, on Flickr

Spotted in the basement at The Bicycle Works. Rider has hurt her knee a bit after doing the 24 Hour Strathpuffer event (but not on that bike!).

Rather than a Hase Pendulum pedal she opted to attach her pedal directly into bottom bracket. Yes it works - as the bike is fixed the left hand pedal doesn't need the right to come back up.

    Genius

Remarkable foresight there from the crank extractor manufacturer to use the same 9/16" x 20tpi internal thread as a pedal.

A sporty looking SRD at Holy Corner about 9am. I was in disguise as an extremely grumpy pedestrian - bikeless due to a puncture and rather mangled rear tyre.

SRD (again) and Arellcat on MMW at around 5.20 as I headed to TBW for a new tyre and inner tube. I looked on in envy as you both serenely rolled past - have you any idea how long it takes to get anywhere when you are walking!?

Somewhere I read that "everywhere is within walking distance if you make the time", but sometimes walking does seem ever so slow, especially if it's part of a route you're more used to cycling!

I spotted Wingpig heading east on Strathearn Road this evening, must've been about 18.15 or so.

A couple of years ago, when my office was on London Road and not the Gyle, I walked into work for 50 minutes every morning. The more sedentary people there could scarcely believe I was the same species as them, to undertake such an epic distance using such an arduous mode of transport as 'foot'.

The individual of this type that springs to mind most readily would spend five to ten minutes each morning driving the streets looking for a parking space acceptably close to the office and complain that [this month's diet fad] was rubbish.

A colleague of mine in the afterschool club walks from Stockbridge to Morningside every day, which is 70-90 minutes, I think. I can scarcely believe she's the same species as me, to undertake such a trivial distance using such a slow mode of transport as 'foot'.

Your chosen mode of transport does a number to your head, I declare.

Couple of months ago I were a bit bored so just headed out For A Walk. Ended up on Old Dalkeith Road, via Stenhouse Cross, Asda Chesser, Holy Corner down Morningside Road, over the braids to admire the observatory then into Savacentre for change and Juice. It was a nice day out, had to get back to pick up the wee man, which involved another walk back from nursery.

I could have done the journey in a tenth the time by bike but i wasn't really going any where so it didn't matter. A good walk is good for the soul, if not the shoes.

I had forgotten about this until I saw him again today but a man riding about on a blue bike that seems to be made of scaffolding poles and has ledges and stuff.

Spotted Arellcat on her Lightning turning right out of the High St onto George IV Bridge about 10 minutes ago. One of the few forum members I've met, so have to record that spot!

Friendly bunch of Portovelo cyclists coming out of the cafe in West Linton - don't know if any forumites were among them...

@fimm Were you with another lady, both with Edinburgh Triathletes kit on?

By that stage, the club was in two groups with CCEr's in both. We were very happy by then due to the simple combination of tea/cake plus knowledge of tailwind all the way home.

Sounds like a clear spot of the first kind.

@amir, that was I (I was the less chatty one, with the club coat, not the hi-vis).

We'd been passed earlier by a fast-moving bunch who I thought were ERC - I don't remember seeing the Portovelo kit then - then later, when we were dealing with that *%$*! headwind towards West Linton we could see another group of cyclists ahead of us and I thought it was a bit surprising that we'd caught the "ERC" group up and then assumed when we spoke to you in West Linton that it was you who we'd seen in front of us - but then you'd had time for coffee and cake. All very confusing (but wasn't the tailwind home good?)
