Duracell Lockables for goalposts... I found the key for the rear one in a box in the loft the other day. Much more streamlined than the EverReady lanterns but very hungry for space on the handlebars.

This morning at the Foot of Leith Walk, a girl with a lovely tweed jacket heading onto Constitution St. What was strange was that she was cycling with big suede mittens on. Not practical but she carried it off very well!

Something very like
this with a blazing headlamp, being ridden at along pavement at Ponton St this morning.Certainly a lime green ladies cruiser, but with even more pronounced step-through than the Electra pictured.
Was tempted to yell at it to get on the road where it belonged, but realised that would mean riding the wrong way down a one way street into oncoming traffic.Posted 14 years ago # -

You have just see into the future...
Roads jammed full of 'eco' electric vehicle users whilst self-righteous 'risk averse', 'lifestyle' cyclists ride on the pavements. I may be wrong but increased bike use and pavement riding go hand in hand.
But of course it was a one way street and should maybe have a contraflow bike lane in it...?
I've just given my daughter a rebuke for riding past the tartan gift shop on pavement on her Dawes.
(Mind you she did manage to leave some boys on BMXs behind the other night whilst riding up Johnston Terrace so she is on road most of time. ERC beckons for her).Posted 14 years ago # -
Woman riding up Ardmillan on a Landrover branded bike, didn't think these things ever got out the garage but this one had seen some considerable use.

Last night I spotted a man riding one of those new GoCycle bikes up South St David's Street and left onto Rose Street. First one I've seen.

Some amazing spots on Sunday. First off a beautiful red combined recumbent/upright tandem with a child seat on princess street. Then just over the road a three person tandem (tridem?) Green and set up for one adult and three kids.
some questions tho:
1 - is there a point in combined 'bent/upright? surly you lose all the aerodynamic gains?
2 - how fast can a three person bike go? ;)also encountered some pavement riders. I found its very effective to walk straight towards them looking them in the eye and making sure i stay on a collision course, unless of course they get on the road :) *note do not do this to mean looking guys with tattoos on their heads in Leith.

Some answers... ;)
1. Apparently it's more sociable, means you can chat more easily than on a traditional tandem.
2. Called a Triplet I believe, but no idea how fast it could go - my guess is that downhill pretty damned quick, quickly negated by any uphill!

the combined upright-recumbent tandem I saw could really shift. I am also guessing that if the pedaller on the front had some kind of disability this might be the way to go, I saw Jon Snow on C4 News on a tandem used at para-olympic velodrome events, he seemed freaked out

"set up for one adult and three kids" doesn't that count as an... erm... quad-dem?

Invisible tricycle rounding the corner from Morrison Street onto Dalry Road at a fair lick. Gentleman rider with spectacles (not LaidBack).
Pulled up next to someone riding MY bike. MY BIKE! at the same location (although he didn't know that, as my bike was safely asleep in the hall at home) Would have started a discussion with him about how nice it was except he was absorbed in whatever was being played down his headphones, so I decided instead to make a list of why my bike is better than his bike;
* I didn't put fat gatorskins or plastic halfguards on a bike with styling inspired by 70s track bike design (you're going to get wet anyway with them, particularly if you only put the back one on)
* I colour co-ordinated my tyres and pedals
* I didn't put a honking great MTB spotlight on the handlebar
* I took the naff oversize reflector off
* I peeled off the orange "!BBIWY WEAR A HELMET" sticker on the toptube
* My gear is bigger than his gear
* My Dad's bigger than his DadIt's amazing what you can notice and what prejudices you an form in 20 seconds...

What was really nice was the barman offered to let me bring the bike inside and keep it in the hall if I got cold or it rained (since I had forgotten my keys and couldn't lock it up)
Thumbs up for the Ardmillan!Posted 14 years ago # -

I seem to be in the background of the Guardian video quite a bit as well, and got interviewed by the 'Edinburgh Reporter' as the 'legal friend' (which sounds like euphemism for civil partner) of the chap who was getting the original aggro.
I mean, I might have stirred things up by posting on Twitter about it initially on Stef's behalf. And I might have contacted the Guardian and the Evening News. Maybe.

A Raleigh Banana shirt doing the West Lothian Clarion's Kingscavil Hill Climb on Sunday. Kaputnik, was that you?

Kaputnik, was that you?
Quite! Spotted!

Heh! I was off two before you (I think), but remained incognito... No distinguishing features...

Oh I like this game...

Indeed you were and pipped me to the top by 13 seconds! Were you wearing an orange Gore gilet?
Posted 14 years ago # -
No - light blue Campag jersey with white arm warmers... One before the guy in the skinsuit - that made me nervous: I was convinced he was going to overtake me, which spurred me on a bit.
Posted 14 years ago # -
Ah OK when I see the photos I'm sure my memory will be jogged. The immediate before and after is a bit of a blur still - I collapsed down next to orange gilet man at the top and we sat there for a few minutes trying to recover our breathing! At least you didn't have the man in the skinsuit AND aero helmet up after you!

I'd still have been there. I was stood slumped over my bike for what seemed like an absolute age because I could not lift my leg enough the get my foot over the top tube... Oh, to have had the energy to collapse!

@anth at work - what will 'hot guy in shades' make of your description as 'legal friend'?

Mr SRD and junior SRD cycling along Gilmore Place eastbound this morning. Mr SRD was carefully monitoring progress of junior, who was on the pavement alongside, so I didn't stop and say hello in case I distracted him from his supervision duties.

Junior SRD cycled on her own to Dalkeith Rd below Commonwealth pool in 40 min. I'm quite ridiculously proud of her.
