I know wingpig's real name, but it doesn't suit him at all. He *is* wingpig.

(perhaps Wingpig IS his real name??)

It would be impolite to ask Batman his real name, rude to ask Superman for his pilots licence and bad form to suggest he is anything but wingpig :D

Perhaps it's the Chinese name, Wing Pig, and no-one's letting on.

Edit: the superhero theory sounds better, actually.

Have you seen him ride up the high street! No mere mortal could do that.

Wingpig is probably nuclear powered. There's no other way that someone can generate that amount of heat in winter either.

As a child I was probably bitten by a radioactive version of whatever animal has really inefficient myosin that squanders loads of its input energy on thermogenesis instead of force. Possibly also a radioactive whale or seal to make my subcutaneous fat extra-insulating.

"...and he's never told me his real name."

    You've never asked.

Hope Park Terrace or similar. I was bus mounted so you wouldn't have spotted me back.

Woman on a very heavily loaded tourer along Juniper Green this afternoon. Had what appeared to be all her lifes possessions strapped, bolted, panniered and tied to every square millimeter of bike. Really quite an impressive sight...I felt quite sorry for her as that climb is a legburner at the best of times even on a lightweight bike, and there was a vicious headwind the whole way up today. I seem to recall she had a blue top with a white logo and it was for some sort of charity, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was.

Dougie: I am both chap and bearded, but those were no ordinary cyclists. They were the awesomesauce marshals of POP2, out for the pre-event blether and run-through.

Red velomobile with a tailwind heading east as I unaerodynamically west along Polwarth Terrace. Closing speed too fast to see if the cap-wearing pilot was Arellcat.

It was indeed Ms Cat in the red torpedo. :) I prepared to wave based on recognising the position and intensity of your front light.

The lighter mornings have interfered with my waking-up times, so I'm on the road earlier than usual. Consequently I've spotted alanr several times at the foot of the Lanark Road triking into town, and an occasional hometime spot in about the same place.

  17. steveo heading into Trespass at lunchtime. Would have followed in, but was on a time critical mission.

kaputnik this morning on Melville Drive (I think), about 70 yards ahead. I foolishly tried to catch. It's a source of pride that I managed to hold the gap, but it almost killed me.

steveo heading into Trespass at lunchtime.

I was on the prowl for a rucksack to carry my overnight kit plus the monster camera for walking. Its much easier to stuff panniers they don't hurt your shoulders!

@Anth I always turn onto Melville Drive and zoom along it to guage the wind strenth and direction. It helps to work out what a comfortable cruising speed for the rest of the commute will be.

@Steveo I think I've got a largely unused waterproof Eurohike rucksack if you're interested? Fairly comfortable, used about twice before I replaced with a smaller Tiso own-brand.

what size is it Kaputnik? I'm currently trying to remember how big my sleep roll can pack down and then gauge just how much space takes up.

@steveo it's a mediumish size (which is why I stopped using as it was an unneccessary between my big rucksack and my daysack). I'll dig it out from under the bed when I get home and check.

Gembo(?) waiting for me at the end of the aqueduct this evening again.

Yet again he acknowledged me and I was too busy avoiding going in the water to do more than grunt a generic thank you.

@Gembo - well that's very confusing, because the person who I thought was you last time you spotted me was (I think) the same person I saw today. Now it must be said that the person I thought was you doesn't look like what I remember you look like, but I assume that was my memory playing tricks.

Maybe it wasn't me you saw last time...

Do any of these spots therefore count towards whatever it is that spots count towards?

Not one, but two cyclists going the same way as me in Livingston this morning. This counts as a lot of cyclists by Livingston standards.
