I spotted no less than 10 or 12 pairs and single touring cyclists on my rides over the weekend. A few around Duns and heading up and over to Gifford, a few on the A7, and then yesterday quite a few on the N1 from Innerleithen.

I saw one particularly awesome looking pair on a massive tandem towing a trailer with a metal box the size of a small fridge. It looked like it opened into a table top (they were stopped at the side of the road eating). Super cool. However no chance of getting that on a train!

Also spotted a ERC club ride in dalkeith who past when I was sitting sorting out my saddle position (new bike n all that) then I overtook them on a hill climb. The leader clearly thought I was one of them as I heard WAIT WAIT shouted at me as I shot off the front, assumed he was shouting at someone else till I looked back!

To be honest though considering how nice it was I spotted few enough roadies out and about. Maybe I was too far from Ed, or perhaps it was so nice that wives and sproglets took over priorities rather than riding.

Viking child's adjustable frame bike c. 60s in Craiglockhart.

    Lovely.

Also had lovely chat with the grandfather of the pedaller, who is clearly a bike fancier/collector and a nice bloke too.

kaputnik disappearing down Moat Drive yesterday morning. I was too preoccupied with mad tanker I then trailed to Moray House to shout. Nodded to Steveo doing a Kaputnik (ie taking long way home). I presume unless just visiting Balerno of an evening last night.

@ARobComp Mont Ventoux probably took priority over long-distance roadie riding on Sunday. It did for me anyway. Terrible timing, this hot spell, what with the TdF to catch up on most evenings.

I passed only a handful of other roadies out on Sunday in my brief 2-hour foray in the heat (turned back after 16 miles as it just wasn't any fun as my legs and lungs were on strike). Got home just intime for the climb where I think most other fans had been watching it for some time.

Dave on the Slateford viaduct. Something was rattling, either on the white bike he was wheeling, or on his back, I couldn't figure out which! I was busy shepherding a fast asleep daughter in her child seat while trying to let the evening rush of cyclists and walkers past on the narrow towpath. Said hello but not sure you recognised me: it's been a while since I was last at a PY I suppose.

Bearded, smiling recumbentist westbound through Slateford c. 520PM. Small wheel front, large wheel back, upright riding position more like the Hase Pino than the Fuego.

@kaputnik, saw the same chap on WoL path out past bypass a while afterwards. Still smiling!

@kaputink and @crowriver I guess that was the man & bike I saw the other day waiting to turn out of the side street opposite the Dalry Lidl.

fair white hair, waves his right arm up and down a bit? I have seen him as far as gillespies x-road chapeau for doing the slateford to Juniper Green hill (I used to call it my Ventoux) on a 'bent. Is it AlanR ?

K, was it a short recumbent with a green plastic box on the back? The bearded owner was at POP2.

AlanR doesn't have a beard. At least, he didn't on Sunday when I bumped into him outside Laid Back Bikes. I had a teacher once who could grow an incredible amount of facial topiary in a week, probably at the rate of about three beard-seconds per second.

Mr MM and I spied Eddie at the Lauriston Blood Donor Centre on Tuesday. Was the second lap through the donation area an attempt to eat more teacakes?! ;o)

No, dark hair, curly I think but under a lid so hard to tell.

Didn't see a green plastic box, but it doesn't mean it wasn't there.

Aye, dark hair and a designer stubble style beard, though quite dark/dense too. Very smiley chap! Seems to be a side effect of recumbenteering?

Everyone smiles on a 'bent. It adds to the general slightly unhinged look.

'Twas me. I like my recumbent :)

(I lost my bike lock key in the Transfusion center and was trying to find it..)

Sorry for missing everyone else...get a recumbent :)

Chap on a recumbent on George Square this evening at around 19:45. If that is someone here it's my first successful spot (though I was running at the time) and if not I'll still live in hope.

Of all the bearded chaps on this forum, you'd have thought Bruce would be the most-spottable!

And yet I did not ping on the radars of chdot, Morningsider and Arellcat at around 5.35pm yesterday as I went up Morningside Road, spotting each in turn.

I went down Morningside Road at about 5:35pm yesterday, too. I was probably too busy marvelling at how relatively empty it was to recognise anyone.

a very happy Mini-SRD on her pink bike followed by SRD but as you can see, she spotted me first. On the Bye BYe to Someone I haven't even met for real yet (The Buddster) thread I did state I would be in marmite for easy spotting in the boozer and I did not tell a lie.

Bruce, as I trailered to Kapp's. After the ghost bike protest, I spotted allebong heading east on Gorgie Road.

I was hunted down and therefore technically was spotted by WC as I was heading home from the Fenix's 2nd 400km service (pre LEL) and was riding two bikes at the same time.

He's looking very spry despite his head wound and also the bike is holding up well. I forgot what a lovely wee thing it is!

    Posted 11 years ago #
  30. Though it has to be said, that Fenix is looooooovely.... (and I'm not normally a big carbon fan).

While chatting we spotted, and were reciprocally spotted by, Min (who I'd also seen in the morning, the first time since last Monday, not long before falling off, but happy to report that the Jonah effect seems to have been a one-off).
