Red "Velo City" recumbent (with aero shell) turning left out of Grosvenor Crescent onto Palmerston Place. Think I saw a photo of this on a thread here previously.

Made me smile and added to my already good mood as I shot my way past all of the stationary traffic in the West End snarl-up this evening.

*edit* Did some searching; it was a Quest Velomobile and is actually a trike! Previously seen on Laidback's photo stream for the Festival of Cycling tour.

@kaputnik - thanks! Nice to put a name to a bike! Next step will be to attend a PY meet up and put a face to a name

Extremely recumbent trike (horizontal, very low slung chassis) powered by hand. Cruising west on Station Road, South Queensferry around midday and then inching up a climb in Barnton mid-afternoon.

  6. Min at the East Fortune Airshow. I then thought she'd done remarkably well to find kaputnik on my vague "we're over there" guidance. But then noticed she had two pints of beer in her hands and we were sat near the beer tent...

Caught a glimps of a cycling 'team',taking a break on Craigmillar park today.
    only a glimpse.
Saw what look like flat bar hybrids or MTBs
something like Team Drake on the support car.
    Anyone know them?

@Crowriver - that sounds like a chap I used to see fairly regularly. He's paralysed from the chest down, rides (now) a Top-end handcycle, the same as Rachel Morris.

I first met him on the 2001 St Andrews ride - we were chatting and he said "I've got to get there - that's where I left my wheelchair". He's very chatty if you ride with him.

    and in '01...

It does look knackering, but he could keep up with me on the flat and downs...

we were sat near the beer tent

Even closer to the Pimms Royale tent :)

I've met the Barnton handcyclist, he came out to a paracycling event at Ingliston I was at. I found even more respect for all handcyclists after chatting to a few of them.

    One my way home tonight:
    1) A young woman who sailed across the T-junction in front of me on a wonderful sit-up-and-beg bike with a chaincase and stuff. She was dressed flowing black, with no helmet and looked wonderful (in a non-leering sense). It was just how riding a bike should be. That was nice.
    2) Uberuce heading homeward, I guess. We exchanged waves gravely. That was nice.
    3) A car that pulled up beside me in the ASL some time after the lights had gone red. He had no excuse for not stopping in the right place. That was 'nice'.

"Saw" was actually a hearty, cheery "Hello!" as Gembo passed heading out of town. I just managed to put face to voice and shout hello in return.

And yes, the bag! Have trailer, will collect.

Nice lady on a circe helios (minus stoker) heading down from Polwarth to Slateford last night. I was the bloke on the squeaky Surly LHT :-o (now squeak free I hope!)

Cycling home lastnight down Scccccccccotttttttland street (mental note = Hatefull cobbles), I spotted a young lady cycle up. I first saw a modification to her handlebar on the right side. One of those 'cow handles' on the end of the flat bar. When I looked closer it was ~2ft long and it appears she has a missing arm and just a few fingers on the front of her shoulder which she gripped the extra bar with. (Excuse my ignorance, I'm sure there is a proper medical term I'm unaware of)

    Top Girl!!

I mean, even I don't like cycling up there and prefer riding up Belleview & Broughton Street. I only ride down as TIE have closed York place to West > East traffic and the back way round JL is closed for more works.

@DaveC I think I know that woman. I thought she cycles, though I've never seen her do it. If it is the person I'm thinking of, I have seen her lead rock climbs and abseil, and I know she also skis and winter climbs (though I'm not sure if she leads in winter). Her attitude is pretty much just to get on with things.

Sounds like a thalidomide victim, no? Although I don't think a British thalidomide victim would be all that young, but I think there have been much more recent cases from elsewhere (South America?)

She might well not refer to herself as a 'victim'; some prefer 'differently abled' or a similarly positive pioneering term.

@Arellcat, quite possibly, I hesitated before typing victim. I know that in the past the word thalidomide was used to refer to the person as well as the drug. Not sure if that was ever accepted by those who were named as such.

I don't think the person I know was affected by thalidomide. There are other things that can cause similar effects.

Biketrain (not to be confused with cycletrain) heading over the motorway on Gogar Station Road on the look out for inappropriately parked vans.

We had a brief chat on the lovely wide cycle path (van free too) before going our separate ways at the canal.

Such a shame the infrastructure isn't matched at the North end.

There was a lad in same year as me at uni that had the condition where hands and forearms don't fully form (i think there's a genetic condition which can cause it). With a little bit of creativity when it came to using cutlery he never let it get in his way.

Not a forum member spot, but I passed comedian Phil Kay as he cycled up MMW around 5pm this evening. He gave me a very odd look as I went down the way, but then riding a recumbent in Edinburgh at this time of year probably does make you look like a mobile Fringe gig.

Of course if you are Rugg Tomcat, then you are a mobile Fringe gig...
